So, hubby and I saw Maroon 5 w/ Counting Crows last night. The entire show was awesome! They all worked really hard, but it dawned on me while watching Maroon 5 just how hard they really do work.
When I was younger I went to a few "boy band" concerts, and I remember there were parts during the concert where most of the members went backstage while one stayed on stage just talking to the audience, so they all got a bit of a break. Or else one musician would stay on stage playing a solo number while the others took a break or changed outfits...
Well this didn't happen last night! Maroon 5 was on stage for about an hour and a half, and didn't take a break for anything! The only "talking to the audience" was near the end when the lead singer introduced the rest of the band, but the rest of the band was still playing during that time. These guys really rocked their butts off!! I honestly don't know which of the 5 worked harder. The lead singer not only sang for an entire hour and half straight, but also played some guitar himself (and they spent a good few minutes at the end of each song just totally rocking out with JUST music). The lead guitarist was working extremely hard, and there were a few points I was just saying "WOW" while watching him. The drummer had the same "WOW" effect, and of course he didn't stop, a few times it looks as if his arms were going so fast that you couldn't even see them! He had worked up a sweat before the end of the first song! I guess the keyboardist didn't have to work as hard... but as he was being introduced we were told he wrote the majority of the songs, and spends his time backstage playing his keyboard and working up new songs... so without him none of the concert would have existed!
The part that really gets me... they do this almost every single night!! If you look at their tour calendar, they have a show almost daily, they might take a day off here or there when they have to travel really far, but otherwise they are doing this every night, and putting on the same show at the same level of performance each time!!
I could never do that. I think after just a couple of shows I'd be too pooped to pop, and I'd think to myself "If I ever hear that song again I'm going to break something".
These guys work really hard to entertain us!!

it is a hard job, but you don't even mention the rest of the people that make a concert happen.
the sound engineers, running the mixing boards so everything can be heard clearly and every thing is mixed properly.
the light engineers, making sure all the lights are in sync with the music....not to mention the guys running the spotlights usually located in the back and in the light riggings near the ceiling of the venue.....these people must all know where each member of the band is at all times and follow them with the spotlights, not an easy task when you have an energetic band running all over the stage.they also have to know when to change the color of the lights at the exact same time.
then you have your guitar, keyboard, and drum technicians, making sure all the instruments are at all times properly tuned and working to peak performance.
the roadies who have to unload trucks, set everything up, make sure the stage is in order during the concert, tear everything down, load the trucks again and travel to another city,
and do this night after night.
then you have management, security, promotional, caterers, truck drivers, bus drivers....and many others.
so, when we see our favorite performers on TV or at a concert, we just see the fun and excitement.
we don't see all the hard work that many people coordinate and run like a huge machine.

Yes, that is all very true as well, and these guys rarely get recognition because they are "behind the scenes".
Half of the fun during the concert was the amazing light show on stage. There were lasers and fog machines and giant screens behind the band that kept showing different images, sometimes it was lyrics of the song, other times it was a colored disco ball, sometimes it was just random images or more lights.
All of this comes together to make the concert what it is, and there are a lot of people who work very hard to show us a good time.

It sounds like you guys enjoyed yourselves! They sure do work hard at entertaining us. So much work goes in to music. I am like you I could never do it. My son rocks his guitar and thinks he is going to be a rock star someday. Big dreams for a little boy. I do not think he has taken into account there life style. They have to run from the time they get up until late hours of the morning. Congrats on the night out and winning the tickets.@katsmeow1213 (28716)

A lot of people think musicians have it easy, but they don't. I was reading up on Maroon 5 after I won the tickets, and learned they had to replace their drummer, because the first one ended up working himself so hard, he eventually lost use of his arms and was no longer able to be a drummer.

Oh I would love to see Maroon 5 concerts! I bet they are awesome. What makes them awesome besides with gorgeous voice and body, hehe, I think it is because they love their work and put all their passions in it. You can feel the song straight from your heart. I used to work as production assistant back stage on some mall tour shows. Everything is prepared and you know how they are prepared and working hard for their numbers when it comes to stage. You are so lucky to see them in LIVE CONCERT! It's not that their song is so awesome, but watching them play and sing is one i would love to see too. I am not much of a concert fan, but i would buy tickets in their concert if they ever think of coming here in our country, again. Last time i was out of town, and I couldn't go home as I was 9mos pregnant then. :D Lucky you sweetie.
