How many of you here at myLot is a member of CouchSurfing.com?
I found out about this site through one of my foreign students. He learned that I frequently travel and he shared to me this site. I just signed up.
CouchSurfing International is a non-profit organization dedicated to the global community. CouchSurfing was created specifically so that everyone can travel the world and partake in cultural exchange.
It is not a GPT site. It is more like a social networking site where you can meet people from all over the world with whom you can share common interests with. It is a worldwide network for making connections between travelers and the local communities they visit. It is an avenue for people to make friends who would, hopefully, accommodate you in their homes if you get to visit them in their country.
You might want to visit the site. If you do, tell me about what you think about it. Or, if you are already a member, perhaps you can share with us your experiences.

oh, i forget to mention, if you got a chance to visit china, esp. to my city , no matter for work or trip, i'd be glad to offer my help. there're lots of opportunities for english native speakers to be as a part-time teacher at language school. some of them teach only one month and take the money for next stop travelling. isn't it good?

I haven't heard of couch surfing before so thanks for this information. I see that it has a list of countries and shows how many members it has got in them. It has many members in Australia and Canada but not many in some smaller countries like American Samoa. It seems fairly safe because references are given. It seems great for chatting to foreign people and perhaps visiting a few of them in their country. I think cultural exchange is a very worthwhile project. I had a quick look at the site and think it looks great. I will have a more detailed look at it later. It will be interesting to see if any My Lot members belong to it.

Hi dolce_vita78! I have checked out the site and it is such a wonderful site for travelers. You can be a host and a guest for the friends all the friends you have met on that site. It could save you so much on travel expenses especially with accommodations and at the same time you can experience each country you visit in another perspective. I would have loved to have seen and joined that site years ago when I was traveling in other countries before. But I don't think I will be traveling soon. haha..But that is really a wonderful site in my opinion.
