Are shops offering sale on goods really selling cheap or are they cheating us?

End of season sale (EOSS) is very famous in many countries and there's a crowd of people drawn to these shops. Are these really offered cheap to us or are they plain marketing gimmicks.
I think it's a gimmick. I just made a simple calculation on a specific discount scheme and found it out the hard way. It was buy upto 5 shirts for 50% discount and on the 6th shirt, take 60% discount on all the shirts. People will surely fall for it and take the 6th shirt too, but watch out. Suppose each shirt is worth $100, then 5 shirts are worth discount of $250. Buy a 6th one and 6 shirts will fetch you a discount of 600-360=$240. So you gain only $10. So is it really worth. Yes, if you argue, the margin increases on the more you buy. So I think sale is a tactic only for emptying their stocks. What do you think?

of course yes...even i used to wonder about this fact and whenever there is an offer listed in shops, i would be excited, only then my hubby told me about all these facts and then now-a-days, i dont even look at the adds, better buyu them whenever we need and not wait for these End of season sale since they are not at all useful or money saving, but only fake
