I am growing my own pickling cucumbers this year. So far I have pickled 10 quarts so far of them also. Now we know how cucumbers as well as pickling cucumbers tend to hide under the leaves of the plant etc. well this afternoon I went to pick more pickling cucumbers for future canning. This is one I found under a log and leaves. It is huge. One like we can get on a stick at the State fair food booths. I tried fitting it into a quart jar and it barely fits. Only one possibly 2 this size would fit in a quart jar. So, have you ever grown a pickiling cucumber this big? Have you ever eaten one this big on a stick?

Nope I have never eaten a pickle that big before.
I think that I would be retaining enough water to fill some little kids swimming pool if I would eat that! In one sitting! With all the salt that they have!

I did have one like that when we went on holidays when we were living in Saskatoon. At that time, we could go to Vancouver quicker, but now we live in Winnipeg and only go there every ten years or so. But the pickle was not only large, it was yellow and of no use. So it had to go into the garbage container. I have not heard of eating them on a stick.
Was it a sweet one or a dill pickle?

Hah, the sneaky berry! I have never had a pickle on a stick, but I know the deli charges upwards of $2 each for those. Maybe you could get yourself a gallon jar and make some refrigerator dills with those that have gone too big. or slice them up for sandwich sized slices - or bread and butter pickles.

I usually plant the Straight Eight variety of cucumber and sometimes they will get long like that. I planted a different variety this year because somewhere I read they did better in our growing season and soil. This variety is shorter and plumper than the others.
What kind of pickles are you making?
