Do you ever think that you think too much and sometimes wish you could stop?

I notice this can be a problem when I am going to sleep or trying to relax. What do you do about this?

I love thinking, but, the only time I find that it's a real problem is at night when I'm trying to get to sleep. On those nights (most nights) I leave the T.V. on so I can have something to distract me from my own thoughts. Other than that I love to think! I'm very good at it! LOL! Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

Yes...I know about the TV. I do that, too, and my kids don't understand why I need to watch TV before I go to sleep most of the time. It is for that exact reason...to distract me from my own thoughts so that I can relax and not think about everything!

Yes, it is a real problem for me sometimes, usually when i am going to sleep, what i do sometimes is create a place in my mind and visualize all the things i find there, a peaceful quiet place, a garden maybe or a beach.. other times i create a story in my mind and develop it until i fall asleep. Hope this helps!

i think too much, but i also know when to relax. i go to the gym to destress, sit in jacuzzi, take a swim or go for a walk. sometimes reading, drawing or just playing on the computer takes my mind of things. u have to just change the atmosphere to get a break so u can move on...

Yes!! Especially at bed time. I am a life-long insomniac and cannot turn my brain off. I have tried meditation, etc and worked with people in the know about those things, but it is just do hard to turn off all those thoughts. Can you say "totally stressed out"??!! Yikes

Yes it happens to me too, sometimes when i try to focus like i said in my post it takes a long time, because my mind drifts away with all the thoughts coming in! Its hard to do sometimes but it usually works for me!

I do have that problem...It's not thinking so much but the darn voices, I'm just kidding but I do have problems sleeping from thinking too much. I excersise before bed and drink non-cafinated herbal tea before bed and it does help.

Absolutely. I find this to be a real problem when I'm trying to get to sleep, especially if I've had a busy day. I get in to bed and instead of sleeping I find myself thinking about everything that's happened in the day, and whether I handled situations well. Then I think about what I have to do the next day. It's a nightmare. Sometimes I find listening to audiobooks help, especially the ones with the really dull, computer generated voices. Listening to them speaking seems to slow down the words in side my head. Other people get the same effect from listening to music. During the day I can find that I'm really easily distracted from work (like now), especially when I have unrestricted access to the internet on my work pc! Sometimes you just have to be strict with yourselves. If it's not getting in the way of anything else I always try to let my mind wander. I have a very vivid imagination and think about so many different things.

This is a constant problem for me, especially when I try to go to sleep. My brain is running at full speed no matter how tired my body is. I have had to develop my own meditation system to help shut down my racing thoughts. I lay down and get as comfortable as possible. Then I picture a brick wall with a black dot in the center of the wall. I make the black dot grow until my wall is completely black. This black wall becomes my universe which is completely empty. No light, no movement and no thought. After a few minutes my mind will shut off and I can fall asleep pretty easily. Try it sometime! It works well for me.

I have been having this issue a lot lately. I lay awake for hours trying to turn my brain off. Eventually I give up and get up to do something till I am too tired to be awake any longer. Then I am sleepy and have a hard day the next day...

i do the same thing. my grandmother use to tell me i took my troubles to bed w/me & she was right. i still do that. i hate it when i do. i try just to clear my mind of what's troubling & think of something nice like my grandchildren or a special event , count sheep anything to get my mind off of what's bothering me. it works pretty good if u can manage to do it.it's not easy. wishing good rest & sllep for u.

Thinker - Overworked mind, is a terrible thing to have
I know that I am a thinker. My mind never stops. When I get off of one thing, there is always something else to replace it. I try to shut down before I go to sleep, but it doesn't always work. If I'm not thinking about the bills, I am thinking about something so minor, like what to eat for dinner, my mind is always working. I think this goes beyond thinking, and falls under the category of worry wort.
