National Creamsicle Day celebrates a tasty summer cooler.
The heat and humidity of August beckons you to discover, and to enjoy, a summer cooler. A creamsicle is an excellent choice. This is one of several chilly ice cream and frozen snack days to enjoy on a hot, sticky August day. Just make sure to eat your creamsicle quickly before it melts.
Happy National Creamsicle Day.
I don't have any creamsicles BUT I do have to go out. But I do have oj and vanilla ice cream so I could make a milkshake.

What a great National Holiday! I love creamsicles, or is that dreamsicles? I even make "Clouds and Sunshine" at home, do you? Take a loaf pan, I use a clear glass one. Line it with plastic wrap or waxed paper hanging over the long sides. Then, let a quart of orange sherbet and a quart of vanilla ice cream, soften for 15 or 20 minutes, on the counter.
Next, take a spatula or similar kitchen tool and spread a layer of the softened vanilla ice cream in the bottom of the pan. Make it about an inch deep or so. You don't have to be exact. Smooth it neatly. Wipe off the spatula. Then, spread a layer of the softened sherbet over the first layer. If it's getting too soft, put all in the freezer for a few minutes.
Keep spreading layers of vanilla and orange until you get almost to the top of the dish. Cover it with more plastic wrap and place in freezer to freeze at least 4 hours.
Before slicing your Clouds and Sunshine, remove it from the freezer (of course). Using the edges of the plastic wrap, lift out the loaf of Clouds and Sunshine.
Then, leave it sit on a cutting board or in a flat dish or pan for 5 or 10 minutes, until you can cut through it with a warmed knife. Make a one or two inch slice (like you are slicing bread) and place on serving dish. Top with a leaf or 2 of fresh mint, if you have it.
You can also make this the day before. Guests love it in the summer as it's quite a refreshing treat. Hope you like it.
