I was in a car accident 2.5 years ago and suffered a back injury. I have since gained some weight that I truly do not like or need at the moment. However yesterday I went down to the YMCA-YWCA and got a membership for myself and my mother. It is no fun working out by yourself. My surgeon told me to get into the pool at least 5 times a week to take that little bit of weight I put on as well as tone and strengthen my muslces as I have lost all my muscle tone and everything. I am really looking forward to going today and just counting down till we leave.

I had alot of fun today. I lasted about 30 minutes in the pool kicking the legs and arms fluttering around and then moved over to the hot tub for 15 minutes. I sure didn't want to over do it as it has been years since I was in the pool let alone 2.5 years with this back injury.

That does sound like fun and I agree with you about having someone to do things with. My daughter come saturday to pick up my grandson and spend a few days here and while here we each got us a wii fit and have had so much fun with it and I already know that when they leave it won't be the same doing it alone. Have fun and good luck, you can reach your goal.

I did have alot of fun. Got in the pool for 30 mins. Got the legs kicking and the arms moving. Took it really easy and then 15 mins in the hot tub. I am actually not feeling to bad right now. A little sore and a fair amount of pain still but nothing like yesterdays pain. Heres to looking up at a brighter future.

All the best to succeed in your battle, by the way, is swimming really helpful in losing weight or are you mainly doing it for the back pain...because i too want to reduce my weight, my job is with the computers which needs me to sit all the time in front of the computer, but havnt had real back pains yet, but know that i would surely in few years

Thank you very much. Yes it is a very good way to lose weight. Not only have people told me that but my doctors and my surgeon as well. I am losing the extra pounds I gained as well as the back pain.

I'm so sorry to hear about your accident! I think that, by joining the YMCA/YWCA with your mother, you've done the best thing you could have done! Any kind of exercising or dieting alone is the pits! I'm glad you're doing it with your mom. Swimming is probably the best form of exercise you can get for reducing fat and increasing muscle strength and tone. You'll probably see results faster than you realize! Good luck to you and have fun!

My mom needs to take some weight off as well. After her surgury in Feburary it just seemed that she was packing on the pounds. However she gets alot more exercise than what I do. We do out little walks but it is always me saying Mom I gotta stop. I can't go on anymore. Yes that is what my surgeon as well as 2 other doctors have said because it being a back injury. They told me to start off slow and work my way up. I am hoping that with swimming at least 5 times a week I will be dropping the pounds. I usually do drop alot at the very beginning as my metabalism is quite high. Thank you for responding and have a great day.
