I have been having nightmares alot lately and its making it were i am not getting good restful sleep. It started about two weeks ago and the first one was so bad i started hitting and kicking in my sleep. I am not remembering what the dreams are about just that i was scared to death. Why is this happening? How can i stop it? I have never had this happen before and am at a lost for what to do.

Nightmares are generally a warning to you that something is going on in your life that you need to tend to. It would help if you could remember what they were about. Keep a pen and notepad and a small reading light next to you. When you wake up, write down any thoughts, feelings, images, words..etc that come to you. Only then will you be able to figure out what they are about, then, you can start working on whatever the issue is that is causing these.

You might try warm milk before bed. Milk is high in the amino acid Tryptophane, which is a relaxant.

No one can say why with any authority. Dreams are just dreams. You can try changing the direction of your sleeping position, say, if it was north, make it east or west for some days!
