Every year locally we have a carnival day which also includes an amazing air display which this year included the Red Arrows, a Typhoon, Spitfire, helicopters and many others. My photography isn't all that but have uploaded a pic of the Red Arrows. Nine left Exeter airport but only eight displayed as one was hit by birds on route so safer to return to base than to display but still fantastic. Have you ever seen the Red Arrows or any other aerobatic displays? Do you enjoy them? What sort of displays do you have at your local carnival days? Ellie :D

I LOVE air shows, Ellie! My second daughter is in the RAAF, and one of the courses she did was at East Sale RAAF base, which is the home of the Roulettes (an aerobatic team). They are brilliant! It's also brilliant watching fighter jets - Hornets, F111s, etc. When I was a child, we used to go out and park at the side of the road near the end of the runway in Darwin and watch the Mirages come in - whoa! They were a mean looking machine!

Hi Guybrush, Other than the Farnborough Air Show the Dawlish one is the one I go to every year though last year I drove someone to Duxford but didn't go myself. They are incredible machines and can be enjoyed by young and old. Wow your daughter in the RAAF you must have been proud of her. My son loves planes and helicopters of any type so I quite often drive to the local airport to let him watch them coming in to land and taking off. Ellie :D

Hi my son can't wait until he is fourteen so he can join the Air Cadets, he loves the fact that mummy works at what he calls 'soldier land' too and we have many chinooks flying over because of the camp nearby so he will I am sure want to do something along these lines. Air traffic controller, wow, an very responsible and interesting job, I bet her view of the planes is amazing. Ellie :D

Hey babes I saw the london show in june it amazes me how they keep so tight in formation! They look spectacular and the manouvers they make them look so easy!
I prefer cars if i'm honest but my nephew really wanted to be a fighter pilot so we go to shows whenever they are on in Manchester. Bolton doesn't have any shows or carnivals we're a boring town the most we get is a firework display on bonfire night apart from that switching the lights on is the only other big event we have.

Hi Mands, How could Bolton be boring when you live there eh!
My son absolutely adores planes and helicopters and I enjoy watching myself but for me it is cars and bikes too. This event is so good as it is very local and free (even better) and they then have a carnival prossession after too through the town so it is a great day out for young and old. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi Mands, well if you ever get to Devon to visit me make sure it is this week in August as we had the local bike show over the weekend and the carnival is always the Thursday after with the Red Arrows as a definite, sometimes we get Harriers too. I got free tickets last year for Goodwood but gave to my brother as he lived nearer and I couldn't make it. One of my friends from here is getting to go to the F1 Singapore first ever night race next month and I am just so envious. They will have a lovely time and I wish I was going also but have resigned myself to the fact that I'll be watching on TV instead. At least I won't need ear defender eh! Ellie :D

Hi ellie,
We also go to the airshows here in california. We always go the Miramar airshow. The airplanes are great, my favorite is the Harrier. They have all kinds of food, drink, and we get to meet all kinds of people. Do you have the website where I can see what the Red arrrows are?

Hi Kaleegirl, Actually they do usually have a Harrier there at the display but there wasn't this year for some reason as I love the way it hovers and then almost nods hello and goodbye, wow thanks for reminding me. I am sure the Red Arrows do have their own site but have uploaded a pic of them for you but I took so not very clear I'm afraid. Ellie:D

I saw them just the other day Ellie. They gave an impromptu display as we drove along. Well, we parked up to watch. Sounds like you've had a lovely day. I bet your son loved it all. I love to see all those aircraft, but I still don't think that you can beat the Battle of Britain Flight with Lancaster along too. I am afraid that we have nothing so wonderful here. Just the Police helicopter (currently grounded for safety checks) and usually later on, a display of bad behaviour by the local boys and squaddies in town for the clubs!

Hi P1kef1sh, Oh it was an amazing day, I remember your discussion where you had seen them recently. They did have the Battle of Britain Memorial flight today with the Spitfire and Lancaster and can't think of other one sorry, weather was beautiful here but they were unsure whether they would be able to make it down but they did. Oh my son loves all planes and helicopters and got a poster given to him of the Typhoon for his bedroom wall. Ellie :D

I have seen the red arrows display many many times, one place that I used to live was near where there were a lot of displays and we knew where we could stand so we did not have to pay! I was only about 12 at the time.
I absolutely love air shows, I have been after going to one for years, but so far have not got to go. If I could drive then I would take myself but I have to rely on hubby!

Hi Cinderella, Wow your dad was RAF how lovely. My neighbour who I saw there yesterday was RAF Rginment rather than REF but has a keen interest in aircraft and is a brilliant photography and helps the local Air Cadets these days too. My son is so interested in planes and helicopters and as mummy works at what he calls 'soldier land he gets to see plenty too bless. Yesterdays event is amazing and even better because it is free, LOL. Ellie :D

Hi Gabs, I forgot to upload the pic so have in response one. Last year they were amazing as my then boyfriends son was in hopsital after being run over with serious head injuries and they sent loads of stuff to the hospital for him and other than some short term memory loss from time to time he has recovered really well so this year we went and personally thanked them. My son got given a poster of the Typhoon too so he is made up bless. He can't wait to be an air cadet but a few years yet a while he is only four bless. Ellie :D

I have not seen the Red Arrows, but I did see a display of the Snow Birds here in Canada, but it was not a close up display. We were looking out our back door and we saw them in the sky from the exhibition or air port or where they had the display and I also saw them on television. But we never went to the exhibition to see them, and a good thing to, I would have craned my neck.
Oh and I did see the American version on tv.
I heard it is dangerous. There was an accident once when one of the pilots slammed into the audience. I do not know what one it was because we do not get the paper, but there was quite a write up on it - oh it was in our Winnipeg Press, they seem to sensationalize deaths, write about point of view of the families, whether the accident could have been prevented, was the pilot to blame or not, etc.

Hi Suspenseful, With anything in life there are always accidents be it at a fairground, an airshow, just walking along the pavement I myself unlike the Winnipeg Press prefer to dwell on the positives rather than the negatives that happen. It is always lovely to see the planes up there performing. Ellie :D

Oh Jill, yes we had a terrific time and I should imagine our Red Arrows are very similar to your Blue Angels. I go every year and my son loves planes and helicopters so is always in his element too. After the flying there is a big procession through the town wih floats of all sorts from all the nearby towns. A few years ago before my son was born I helped make one and we had little girls dressed as mermaids sat on the back of dolphins that went up and down as the float moved along, very beautiful and won 3rd prize. Hello ellie333.
Of all the experiences I've had, I've never been to an air show! So, I've not seen the Red Arrows or anything like that. I think it would be a pretty exciting show, at least it sounds like it would.
When such a show takes place at the airport not too far from our home, I see and hear all the jets flying over the house and wonder if it's a fun time to watch them over at the airport. I may need to check one of these shows out. It sounds like the one you just saw at your carnival was quite entertaining.

Hi PearlGrace, Oh the one we saw was fantastic and everyone young and old enjoys, people book days off work just to see and years ago when working for my old boss he used to close the office so we could all walk to the seafront to see them flying. I am sure you will enjoy if you ever did get to go. The Red Arrows even drew a heart shape in the air with smoke in one of there moves. Ellie :D

Hi Littleowl, After the air display we also have carnival floats in a procession too which is fabulous with floats coming from towns all over the area. I just love the atmosphere. My son thoroughly enjoyed himself too. He would have loved to have been a pirate too on the pirate ship float with your grandson. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi Ellie, I was at an air show at an air forc base about a month ago and I love watching the fighter jets doing there manuvers. They had the Air force Tunderbirds there which I guess would be the American equvalant and they put on quite the show. My favorite is watching the fighter jets doing there high speed fly by when you see the plane fly by really fast and the very loud sound follows them about a half a second behind. I'm not much of a photographer but I have a pic of the Thunderbirds.
Huggles, Tianna

I love airshow, I am so pleased you have managed to get to see one too so recently. Great fun. Thanks for uploading your pic. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi Tamara, I have been to Farnborough Air Show in the past and my neighbour goes to Duxford and Biggin Hill every year too. This display is free though but just as good as it lasted about four hours with different planes, the Red Arrows where the last, grand finale so to speak and well worth waiting for, after we had a carnival prosession through town too so the festivities continued. Had loads of fun thanks. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi Olivemai, Planes started performing at about 1pm and the climax was the Red Arrows at 5pm so a good four hours of non stop air display, after that there was a carnival prosession of glorious floats through the town and festivities into the night, I left though to get my son home for bed as it had been a long day for him bless. It is a freee show that relies on donations from the public but it is always so well supported that they usually raise enough for the next years event. Ellie :D
