Eyes Wide Open vs. Shut Tight

I heard a very interesting comment the other day regarding people and swimming. Most people can't seem to understand how people can swim with their eyes open.
Do you swim with your eyes open or shut? Why?
Depends on the water for me. The water had better be very very clean, see through,
well taken care of for me to swim with my eyes open. If I had a pair of goggles that would be cool to. It's not the most comfortable thing for me to wear. Mostly, I swim with my eyes shut. It's to much of an entry point for bacteria to get into, plus glad to not deal with the dry stingy eyes. Usually makes your eyes red and blurry for most of the day.

When i was a child I used to swim with my eyes open, always, but now i got sensitive eyes so it depends on the type of water i am in. Anyway if you ask a doctor they will most likely tell you not to do it :D

Right on there, almae. I'm sure if I did ask my doctor that question, she will most likely answer just the way you said, because it's a good way for bacteria to enter your system. That's what I also think and worry about, don't want to get sick or something.

I wear lenses so I don't really have a choice. i swim with my eyes closed or with goggles. but if I could I would totally love swimming with my eyes open. just cuz its a different sensation you cant get anywhere else. but I agree with you that the water has to be clean and well, you have to put up with the chlorine- which is pretty much guaranteed to make your eyes pink.

I agree there, if I could I would always swim with my eyes open. Would rather see where I'm going and what is in the water than not. I will really need to get some goggles, but sometimes I find them hard to wear. They are either to tight, or I just can't get the hang of it and next thing you know, my eyes are swimming in the water anyway. LOL Have problems with the adjusting of them.

yes, I would definitely have to have goggles on to swim with my eyes open. Snorkling has always caught my interest and someday I will do that. Have fun, for I know that it is fun.

I usually swim with my eyes closed. I have sensitive eyes and even if I open them for just a second they are red and irriated all day long. If I need to I will but I try to avoid it.

Exactly. I'm the same way. Wow, that was one quick response. Thanks samijo. I think that definitely explains my eyes, sensitive. I should'nt be surprised seeming I'm sensitive of alot of things. I agree, if I need to I will open my eyes, but I also avoid it, if at all possible.
