I recently purchased a new HP computer,Pavilion dv6000.It was ok at first, but lately the caps buttons will not work on anything but capital letters. I have no Question Mark but rather an É, no quotation marks, just an``. I`m thinking I`ve inadvertantly pressed something that has put the computer into the wrong mode. Can anyone help me with this problem É.

It sounds like you have a different keyboard then the one you want. I always change mine to US and US International English. You have to watch when you are first setting up your keyboard. Usually they want you to set it up in the country where you are in, but usually that limits you. So when they asked me if I wanted to receive info or the keyboard in Canadian English, I said no. It could be you set it wrong or more than likely since you are in Canada, you forgot to set it in the Us keyboard mode. Oh I got a Compac Presario and it took me a while to get them to understand that I do not want my writing to be in Canadian English.

I know exactly what you mean! In this case they gave me three options. The first was US English. Canadians use English in a slightly different manner that do Americans, so naturally I gravitated towards Canadian International, which was my second choice. However this language uses French inflections which threw me for a Loop. The last option was Canadian French which I knew enough to shy away from. So you were correct in thinking that I needed to set it for US English. (of course this HP Computer is produced by an American Firm.)

You might chech keyboarb settings. Somehow I switch my bach and forth from many different modes on ocassion with out itention. Maybe change keyboards even. But like you said you inadvertantly pressed something, and It may just maybe your keyboard is set for something like spanish and you need to change it back to englsh. Is it starting to cool down up there yet? ? :)

Its been an unusual summer here in southeastern Ontario. The day begins like an average summer day and then a thunderstorm blows up and it rains. WE have broken all rainfall records going all the way back to Adam. Today when the thunderstorm blew up it brought winds and hail the size of the end of your thumb. WE need some dry summer weather!
