Yeah it's a glitch or a bug maybe on Windows, but there are a few others that won't work either supposedly. PRN CLOCK$ (NT and older) NUL COM1 COM2 COM3 COM4 COM5 COM6 COM7 COM8 COM9 LPT1 LPT2 LPT3 LPT4 LPT5 LPT6 LPT7 LPT8 LPT9 Strange huh?

That's my guess on it. While I have found many of these listed on the internet, it's just been a hunch as to why, but I do lean towards your theory the most.

It has to be the most logical reason, but I still can't accept it as there's nothing like names to the OS. They are just strings of 1s and 0s and ascii characters which the computer understands. So, it's more strange why these are not allowed.

Yeah, quite a list you've mentioned. I wonder why such names are not allowed. It has to do something which Windows doesn't want users to keep so that it doesn't confuse the OS. What say?

I too don't know the reason. I think it has something to do with names which are part of the windows environment and they don't want the computer to get confused with similar names. It's just my belief, I don't know the exact reason, though.
