Can ANYONE top this year's Opening Ceremony? I think this has BY FAR been the best Opening Ceremony, and I don't see how any country will be able to top this one! Of course, China spent $300 MILLION on it, while Athens spent $3 million on the last one. China has definately raised the bar! Do you think it's possible to beat this Opening Ceremony? What was your favorite part? (The Tai Chi was incredible!)

I think it's very hard to beat this Opening Ceremony. sure its the best. London must find and fight his own way. favorite part? I love every part of it. a little too long, though. so many countries and athletes, anyway. maybe there's no better way to shorten time.

I think London will find their own way to make it fabulous. I also don't think it will have to be such an extravagant display to be wonderful, but the Chinese really raised the bar!

Well they made the ceremony at the expense of the people, so do you want a ceremony that means that some of your countrymen do without or something that costs less but does not hurt the population? I also heard that the Chinese just used old film made by their government so some of the pictures used in the ceremonies were shot before. I was not interested, but I liked when the athletes entered the stadium. It was amazing to see how many nations were there, especially from the Old Soviet Union.

Thank you for your response and viewpoint. I think China has come a long way, but they really do have a long way to go. That being said, I think they've been an excellent host country. They have a lot riding on this Olympics (more than just the games.) I think we need to support the baby steps they make, while still urging for more changes in a positive direction.

While I think it could be topped, I don't think any other country would be willing to spend $300 million or more on an opening ceremony. Only in China, lol! It's over the top and although it is an important event it doesn't justify and expenditure like that especially, if it is badly needed in other areas of China. Of course nobody there will dare say anything about the misuse of funds, lol. Anyhow, I liked the drums and the coordination of all those people without markers on the floor. I'm sure the Brits will come up with something spectacular, too, although in a different way;)
