when should you chose a best response?

Hi How long do you think you should wait after posting a discussion before you decide on the best response? Is it best to leave it for a week or two to give more people time to reply as i have noticed some discussions seem to have replies up to a month or more afterwards. Do you wait for a magic number of responses before you chose one? Do you think you earn more money if you chose one, of if your post was chosen for one?

I normally wait about two weeks, but I know that everyone does something different. Once I was given a best response two minutes after I responded, and when I checked, mine was the only comment so far! As far as the money side goes, I have no idea, but I think it helps your rating if your post gets chosen for one.

Thanks Penny, for that advice. Yes, I just received a best response shortly after I posted it, what a surprise! I think they wanted the answer for a purpose.

Of course! I hadn't thought of that, but it makes perfect sense. Have a great day.

I usually wait until the discussion becomes inactive after a week usually. Once you pick a best response you can deter others from responding because they want the chance to also have the best response, so you have to make sure that that is really the best possible answer and determine if you believe anyone else will respond. Though when you wait for a while you may not feel like going back to your discussions and reading all the responses again, so I would say don't wait too long or you tend to forget about them, a week is a good amount of time I would say.

Thankyou sugarplum, this sounds like good advice. As I have started a few discussions and not chosen any best responses yet, this is something I will have to think about.
