Are you a victim to the Salad Kit?

I have recently become one and Its insane because two salad kits cost 6$ which one kits feeds me in one sitting. I used to make my own salad but I just found I could never get my salads quite right, like there is an Applebee's salad that I really love that I tried recreating but it was lacking quite a bit so now if I want to treat myself I spend 9.99 for an asian grilled shrimp salad. I have another place that makes smoothies and the best salads (that are packed!) that I also tried remaking but theirs so many ingredients I couldnt keep up. Right now Im eating a Fresh Express with spinach, little cubes of mozerella and a little feta, croutons, and sweet vinegrette dressing. My other favorite is the Ceasar BLT.
Do you splurge, make your own salads or do without?

There are some really good salad kits out there! In some ways there are outrageously expensive, in other cases though they are cheaper. The other day my hubby and I wanted a salad. So we looked at the price of getting lettuce and spinach and croutons and dressing and just opted to go with the kit because it was cheaper and we do not always eat salad at home (usually that is something we get when we eat out)
It is a nice convenience, but if you were feeding a large family or planning on having salad several days in a row, it is probably cheaper to go individually. For just the two of us though, a $3 dinner isn't too bad!

Yea, thats how I like to think of it myself.
My boyfriend is trying to get me out of the habit of eating out all the time and I admit, im guilty, so I think buying the salad kits is a good compromise too. Im trying to increase the amount of spinach I eat so I expect to be eating them at least three times out of the week.

I eat salad almost every day. I usually make my own from the bagged salads but not the salad kits. The kits weigh almost nothing compared to the other bagged salads because they have extra packaging filler like the dressing packet and the crouton packet, etc. Plus a lot of those extras are usually filled with sugar/corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, tons of sodium...all that nasty stuff :-p

Your right, that crouton pack does take a nice chunk of the pack. Do you have a favorite salad that you like preparing that never fails you, I dont have an absolute favorite I would happy if I could make a good salad that comes out right everytime, thats why I think Im gonna try this spinach salad--man, I ate two bags and its amazing how long it sustained me.

If you mean those Kraft Suddenly Salad kits, I do like them very much! I, too, have not been much of a salad maker. What I make will do in a pinch, but they offer a variety I can't master. You can add to them as well (like adding frozen peas or tuna fish, etc). I think I like their Bacon Ranch kit/mix the best. I'm thinking that it would be good with some real bacon added to it along with some sliced black olives.
If you're talking lettuce salads, then know - I don't know of any kits for them and I don't make them since the only way I'll eat lettuce salad is lettuce only with maybe some fresh peas on top, maybe hame or turkey and cheese, sunflower seeds, and bacon bits. I just HATE making tossed salad at home, so I don't. I'd rather buy the lettuce mix already torn up and use it from the bag with nothing else in it or on it except Ranch dressing.
But, if you mean the pasta salad kits, I get them for around $.99 at Big Lots or Aldi or Save-a-Lot or Family Dollar (where varies because their supplies vary). Sometimes they're Kraft brand and sometimes they're not, but they're just as good.
I haven't had any of Applebee's salads, but I sure do like the ones offered at SaladWorks, though! There's no way you can NOT have enough to eat in one of them!!

I was just at Saladworks the other day and your so right about that. I made a Ceasar that turned into something else because you get to choose 5 toppings, I did a create your own since I dont like the meats and it was so good. Im not a big fan of iceburg lettuce but if I can mix some green in it I don't mind. I like to mix bulghur with my salads instead of meat and I think it feels me up just like any other meal.
