I'm a great-grandma...for the ninth time!

I went to see the latest addition to our family yesterday. She is a tiny, beautiful baby girl named Liasia. She seems to be small enough to hold in one hand and has a monitor attached to her because she was born with apnea. The parents wanted me to hold her, but I thought she is much too tiny yet, too fragile. She is doing very well and progressing according to schedule. I truly feel blessed when I think of the joy and good fortune I have been granted in seeing another generation come along. I will not be nearly as active with this generation as I was with the grandkids, but that's OK. I can still enjoy seeing them from time to time. Do you agree that we are lucky to be living longer and welcoming new generations into our families?

I took my responsibilities as a grandma much more seriously than I do with the current crop of babies, weemam. Where I had to help in the raising of one group, I get to just enjoy the others.

Congratulations my friend! I think that is one of the most beautiful things we experience in this life is the birth of a new baby! Wow, ninth time! You will be busy and it will be expensive too! I got broody when my cousin gave birth to a baby boy last year and its shocking just how quickly they grow up! Already he's starting to walk. You just want to keep them as babies they grow too quickly into monsters LOL! and the terrible teens. I hope baby Liasia which is a cute name, very original and very sweet will be ok x

Thank you for the kind thoughts, wolfie. I do enjoy interacting with the kiddies because they keep me young. Who knows? Maybe I'll even live to see some great-great-grandchildren!

Congratulations on the birth of your new great grandbaby last month. How exciting. Sorry, I am a little behind on responding to discussions. We are the grandparents of 2 biological grandkids, 2 step-grandkids and now another one on the way. Unfortunately the four grandkids all live out of state so we don't get to see them very often. It's difficult to be a part of the grandkid's lives when they are 1,200 miles away. We talk but it's not the same. I haven't been there to experience birthday's or special events. I am excited to have a new one on the way who lives in our town. It will really be my first experience of being around a tiny one in a very long time. It's an amazing experience and I am all geared up for this grandbaby. I do look at those little ones when I am visiting and can't believe I am a grandma and they are an extension of me. It's a great feeling.

They can be quite a handful at times, Shaun, but I wouldn't trade them for anything.

How wonderful worldwise - Congratulations. What a gorgeous name your 9th (9th!!!!!) great grandchild has and i am sure she will soon be off the monitors and things and you will feel like you have just blinked and she will be running around great grandma! I do think it is great to enjoy more generations of your family - I also think it is wonderful for the children to enjoy a bigger family circle! xxxx

Congratulations...she sounds delightful. Will her problem be fixable and soon? I so hope so. While I will probably live to meet my great grandchildren, it remains to be seen if I will recognise who belongs to whom as they grow older....in fact, I wonder if I will see them at all as my children live some distance from me. Is it easy for you to see your grandchildren and spend time with them?
