I think eBay does not sell the things to you directly. The supplier sells it to you and you have to make the payment. Similarly if you want to sell anything through eBay, they identify the buyers and you will have to send it to them. They are middleman. They arrange for Buyers-Sellers meet. They get the cut. I think this is how it works.
