Is negative ion effects proven?

I have watch a show last night where people who claims that negative ions "cured" their diseases. Is this true? Is negative ion proven to be therapeutic? Or shall I ask if do negative ions really exist?

I have never heard of this before, sounds interesting as i just bought a couple of Himylayan Salt Rock lamps that is supposed to guard against the ions that electricity gives out, or are these ions different to what you are talking about...sounds very interesting...
