Does it pay to be in courtship for as long as 5yrs or more..or does it simply lead to gross familiarity. If you have hands on experience pls, lets share...

I was with someone for 5 years and we just got married in July, I am glad we waited, I got to make sure he was the one and I got to know all his little habits. At least I knew what I was getting into.

I dated my husband for 5 and a half years before we got married. It all depends on when the time is right for you to get married. Some people take a year some people take 5 or more. i am now happily married and am glad that i waited this long. i wouldn't change it if I had a chance to. The timing was perfect for us. I have even met people that were dating 5 months and got married and are now married for 10 years plus...

I don't see the point in having a courtship that lasts five years. Surely after that long two people should have some idea of whether or not they want to be together? I would think a number of months, weeks or even days would suffice depending on the people involved, but not years.
