My fiance and I have recently been reading a book entitled "The Emigrants" by Vilhelm Moberg,It is a story about a group of Swedish Parishioners who are destined to America, this book was set in the 1800's and features struggles in farming and religion,it is a great story and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys stories that are set back in this time or have to do with immigration as well as farming,my fiance's great grandmother left this among other books to my fiance, and we have started to read this book which we have to get the rest of the series to find out about what happens to the settlers who leave their homeland in search of a better life, when we first started reading this book,I thought it was going to be boring due to all the weird names, but after like the first chapter the book really got me interested and now I am eagerly waiting for us to read part two which is about the emigrants journey at sea,I have always liked books that are full of action such as old west books with fights, and showdowns where guys draw guns and attempt to shoot each other, and those are usually the only books that can keep my attention, because they are set in older times, back when things were simpler and people actually worked for what they earned, which are better than the most modern books if you ask me,since most modern books seem to be about people complaining about their work and stuff like that and I would have to say that my favorite book right now would have to be Emigrants, which brings me to my questions Do you prefer vintage or modern books? Why do you prefer that type of book?Have you always preferred that type of book? What is your favorite book of that type? Why is it your favorite?I will appreciate all responses I get on this discussion, and just like with all my other discussions,I will appreciate if anyone who adds responses does so in a completely serious manner, and I promise that I will comment on all responses that I get,but I can only promise that my comments will be as good as the responses I get, have a great day.

I prefer reading modern books. I've never really had intrest in vintage books. My favorite aurthor is Karen Kingsbury. She brings life and meaning to everything she writes. When I start to read one of her books, I ignore everything around me and I get lost in the book. Her books tend to keep me on edge as to whats going to happen next. Its absolutely amazing!

I like modern books more than vintage books. I want reading something
that I can related and somehow imagine the story really happening.
If I would be reading a vintage book, it would be hard for me
to picture the scenes as they are happening in an environment which
is not familiar to me.
But I guess it would also depend on the story.
have a nice day!

I can understand where you are coming from my friend, and while you have trouble relating with vintage books I have trouble when it comes to relating with modern books, and I agree sometimes it depends on the story, thanks for responding, have a great day, good luck in your life, and Happy Posting.

I experience the same problem richiem does: it's harder to fit yourself into a vintage book, for me.
No, I'm not saying vintage books are bad (I read them too), but if I had to choose, it'd be modern books. It's more.. "myself", if you understand me.. =)
