I went on a picnic today. It was free for supporting members of the 1812 Home-

stead. Loved it. All we had to do was eat! Macaroni salad, potato salad, cole slaw (that's a cabbage salad for people who may not have heard of one) made from cabbage grown at the homestead, baked beans, ribs, and chicken. They also had a squash with tomato sauce and cheese thing as well as zuchini bread. For desert they had made two kinds of ice cream, vanilla and chocolate. This was my second picnic this year. My first one was a pot luck before July 4th at the job I just lost. Although that was indoors and people ate on a rotating basis indoors during their breaks, so I consider this outdoor picnic today to be my first real picnic this year. I don't think indoors really counts. Did you or will you go on a picnic this year? What do you usually have at your picnics for food? Do you do it pot luck or sign up sheets?

I haven't been to an actual picnic for years. The weather is very hot and humid in the summer and most family or friend bar-b-que's are held indoors. It's also buggy in the sumertime in Missouri. Even our family reunion was held indoors a couple of years ago.

Maybe picnics would be better in the spring and fall where you live. At my house, since I live in a swamp (actually, I live in front of the swamp-litterally), we have a screened in porch and we picnic there sometimes. Thanks and take care

That sounds fantastic. I haven't been to a picnic or cookout in quite a while-- indoors or out.

Hello. This picnic food sounds so yummy! Makes me want to go whip up a picnic meal right now! I have not been on a picnic in sooooo long. Well, we do eat outdoors on our lanai by the pool, but that's a lot easier than packing everything up, getting in the car, driving somewhere, finding a table, and sitting down to eat. Used to have potato salad and sandwiches when I used to pack a picnic up north. Down here, the weather is so hot that it's hard to just take off from home and do something outdoors, like have a picnic. At least at home, if we eat out on the lanai, we can jump in the pool to cool off or step inside the house to escape the heat. Thanks for sharing your picnic story. What great fun it must have been!

It was fun. They're a lot of great cooks up here. I miss the people who used to run it and cook bread in the old time outdoor stove. But other than that, it was like I remember having a picnic there. It's quite a production up here if we have to bring something, too. We have to get the picnic cooler ready to keep things from getting bad. We have a porch with a grill. It's amazing how often we grill. Even a nice day in the wintertime, my husband has grilled. So I will make a salad and desert while he does that. It sort of is home picnicing! Thanks and take care.
