Shopaholic

I was a shopaholic but not anymore. I love shopping very much that I can spend money like no tomorrow for me. I think that is not a good habit. I saved a lot and spent a lot too *smiles* I stopped being a shopaholic when I got married three years ago. I make a routine to go back home right after my office hour. I know very well if I 'drop by' at any shopping malls nearby my office, I will definitely spend some money on something that I don't really need. My husband too, is against my habit and he keeps track of my expenditure. I am tired of him questioning each and every thing that I bought and so I stopped shopping eventually *smiles* I can't believe that it has been three years since the last time I spent my money for something unnecessary *laughs* I am glad that I managed to kick my bad habit!

Wow good for you gr8life! I am also a shopaholic and I'm currently in the control process as I have listed some goals in my life that I know I will be able to achieve if I start saving money not tomorrow, but NOW! So I have been avoiding malls after office as well, as being in the mall, makes me wanna buy something, anything.

Hello purple_chocolat, Good for you! When I managed to stop my habit, I had eight credit cards with me with a lot amount of sum to pay. I ended up paying with my savings. I learned a good lesson. Now, I am credit card free and I really feel the freedom of not having one. I am lucky that I am able to save up again though it's quite late for me. Go for it! I hope you will be successful to kick the habit!

I used to be really bad about spending my money. I never bit off more then I could chew but on the other hand I could have been saving more then I was. All it took was a little inflation and personal will power to buckle down and cut back on my spending and over time I learned how to really bargin shop and to have a shopping budget, even if prices were to go back down I still think I would be able to maintain my new saving lifestyle.

Hello bowtieguy, I feel regret now because if I didn't spend too much, I would have saved the money that I spent for shopping *sighs* I am lucky that I managed to kick the habit and now, I am debt free *smiles*

not really a bad habit!! well in my case i only shopped when i had the budget and buy..but if not i still go to malls just to stroll or buy some grocery stuffs on the grocery level..i find it relaxing and at the same time a good circulation on our blood to walk atleast an hour or so..

Hello vanities, Last time, I could go on a shopping spree for 5-6 hours a day with my stilettos on. Now, I just can't wear high heels! I admit that I spent too much. I could finish up $1000 in a day for my shopping for nothing! But now, I always be careful with my expenditure. Whenever I need to buy something, I will think twice before decided to buy. Nowadays, I always go window shopping a few times before I decided whether I really, really need that stuff *smiles* I learned a lot and I think I am better than before *smiles*

Hello checapricorn, I never go out from a shopping mall without buying anything. That is why I think I should avoid all shopping malls nearby my office. I managed to kick the habit after getting married. My husband is very fussy when it comes to our monthly expenses.

I am not really a shopaholic... but i had moments when i would just buy everything that i love... and the items will just clutter the house... i stopped that habit when i had my baby... so now... whenever i go to the mall... i would only buy the things that my baby needs... almost nothing for me...

Hello aseretdd, Why do you think we changed after having baby? My priorities changed after getting married. I only concern about my baby instead of myself. I rather not to spend for myself for the sake of my baby's future. I am a better person now *smiles* Last time whenever my mother advised me not to spend for nothing, I would tell her that I only live for today. Tomorrow is another story. You can earn money but you can't buy happiness and my definition of happiness that time was to fulfill my useless dreams - having a lot of bags, clothes, shoes and make-ups. I took years to clear up the mess from my shopping spree!

Great! Congratulations! It's a hard to kick away habit for me when I am a little depressed but I am doing a lot better than I used to and I constantly remind myself not to spend so much. But of course, I do give myself treats from time to time because I still think I deserve it.

Hello wondericequeen, I was thinking about it for the past few days and that's the reason why I started this discussion *smiles* I want to stop myself from 'visiting' the malls and by doing this, I will ease 'the burden' of thinking of it *laughs* ...Well, it is very hard to kick bad habits and I am glad that I made it!

Hello darksorrow, Clever boy! It seems that sometimes you can really read my mind from a far *laughs* I have been thinking about it too often lately and that's the reason I started this discussion. I just want to divert my intention and stop it before it happens again *laughs* Really! I just don't want to spend money too much anymore!

Hello iyah10, I love shopping and I still do. Just that, I am no longer a shopaholic myself. I stopped like three years ago and as far as I can remember, I didn't buy anything for myself almost for two years. I only shop for my husband and son. Talking about a good wife *laughs*
