Do you ever just need to say something?

I live in a small area with small towns near by and I have always felt that it was a good environment to be in and a safe area to live in. Recently it has come to my attention that their have been some rapes recently. What bothers me is that these have not been reported to the public. Why would this not be reported? I would think that people need to be aware of this and be more cautious of their surroundings. One of these incidents happened to a friends daughter another to a niece's friend. Because of this I know that these are true events. I just cannot help but feel that these things are being covered up for a reason, perhaps thinking it would harm the image of the community or scare people needlessly. Whatever these young women have been scared for life and I feel for them. Maybe if they had been aware that they needed to be more careful this could have been avoided. I know we all worry about our children and warn them constantly of danger that lurks around ever corner and they think we are being over protective not until they are a lot older do they realize that we may have been right. What are your thoughts on this? This has been on my mind a great deal and I just wanted to put a voice to these thoughts.
