Hi my fellow mylotters,
I just observed that most of the discussions I started are based on others discussions, that is they are either continuation to others discussions
or a doubt raised after observing others discussions or discussions that caused me to think. Is that the case with you and how do you start a new discussion??

It sure can. I can be reading a discussion, when all of the sudden it is like some cleared the cobwebs. I may not start a discussion that is a continuation. But it can help me come up with new thoughts of my own.

Most of the discussions I start is my own and not based on other
member's discussions (if that is what you are referring to).
This has the advantage of being unique. When your discussion is
unique, people will like it more and you will receive more
responses.
The disadvantage of starting a discussion based on other discussions
is that other people will see it as a copied discussion. Another
is that people will tend not to respond because they have
already responded to a discussion like it.
have a nice day!

I'm afraid to say that I do not really like to initiate a new discussion. I find it more interesting to reply to discussions started by my friends. You must have noticed that I try to respond to most of the discussions started by my friends at myLot, including you, pkRaj. When I joined myLot years ago, I used to see that so many interesting discussions remained unanswered. But the community is almost double in size now and discussions receive at least few replies.
But I can't respond to all the discussions started by my friends - wish someday I could manage that too!
For me when I start a new discussion - it comes out either from my random thoughts, or something I'm really interested to learn or share with my friends.

Sometimes, but not most of the time. I only create maybe one discussion a day and those come to me at night when I am not on here. Then I post them the next day.
However there have been times when I have seen a discussion that inspired more questions to me and I will then post them as a discussion.

Its true to some extent, many of my discussions are influenced from my earlier discussions , but not I tell you. Sometimes, new questions and new topic for discussions arises when I get responses from my discussions and this leads to other new discussions. So for me its not always that I get the points for new discussions from old one.

I agree with you, sometimes when I am responding to a discussion, thinking about my response or what other people have said makes me think of another discussion to make! Sometimes though, I'll think of a new discussion randomly while I'm out or as I'm going to sleep! Quite sad really! lol xxx
