Can you get along with your partner's friends or colleagues?

I just had a steamboat buffet with my boyfriend and his bunch of colleagues. I had a difficult time to mix with them actually. I had nothing to talk with them. They had their own topics related with their job. I just kept quiet and sat aside. Maybe I am a quiet and a not friendly person I suppose but I just did not know how to open a conversation with them. I am a different me in front of his friends and colleagues. Are you in the same situation when you go out with your partner's friends or colleagues? How do you overcome it and break the ice? Please share tips with me,thanks.

i also is not type of person who can mix up with other easily...
when i just started my college... my course mate is all new to me... and i cant easily to mix up with them...i think maybe is because I'm a quit , and don't know how to social with others..

I think it can be quite overwhelming and a bit stressful to be in a situation like that, as you want to be careful with how you act so as not to show up your partner. I'm quite a quiet person anyway, but I think I'd find it hard to talk to my boyfriend's work mates unless I got to know them better outside of a work related situation.

hey there yenwie84!I had a fun weekend with my bf's mates.They were really hostile in the beginning but it took us not too much time to break the ice!They talk about their jobs too;being lawyers,engineers,etc,etc but I think what you should is try to look interested and try to ask lots of qs and eventually they'll find interest in you and ask you lots of qs!That's what happened to me.I'm so excited about meeting 'em again.

i never mix up with people so easily, and basically i dont like my girlfriend to have alot of friends around her when i am around her and then too i dont like the guys sometimes who are her friends so no point i just smile casually and sit there! no big time discussions as i agree i am a reserved person !
