Did you know... The taj Mahal is a gift of love?

The Taj Mahal - The most fantastic gift of love is the Taj Mahal in India.
It was built by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan as a memorial to his wife who died in childbirth.

The most fantastic gift of love is the Taj Mahal in India. It was built by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan as a memorial to his wife who died in childbirth. Work on the Taj began in 1634 and continued for almost 22 years. It involves the labor of 20,000 workers from all over India and Central Asia. Imagine what the rich can do when they want to show their love for their loved ones. I wonder, if there are any monuments today that are built specially for proclaiming their love for their significant other? Do you know of any monuments like that?

yes i do know that the Taj Mahal was a gift of love. i've always had mixed feelings about the place. one moment i feel that it's the most romantic gesture in history. another moment will have me feeling that it's the most gross thing a man can do for his woman. it was believed that the building of the Taj Mahal was one of the cause of the downfall of the empire. i'm still in two minds whether i'll visit it one day. cheers ;p

Hmm... I do not really know about the full story of the Taj Mahal. Any where to go to get a quick fill in on the details? I will try looking at the net for something. Hmmm... Why do you think the empire fell due to the Taj Mahal?

I remember reading something about it. An enormous amount of money was used for the construction. Also the manpower requirement was tremendous.I can't remember if if was the lack of money to buy weapons that caused the downfall or it was overthrown by a relative. Something to do with him being too preoccupied with the construction too. Anyway I just find that it is a romantic and at the same time obscene gesture of love. I'm sure it is beautiful but think of the people who suffered for it. It is something akin to the building of the Great Wall. Cheers ;p

Yeah, that's y, Taj MAhal is so popular and it's deservingly in the World heritage list as well as in the 7 Wonders of the world ^_^ Everyhting is done up manually, and the love between the 2 of them is simply undescrible.. It's had a very touching and yet sad back ground, and i guess it's all worth it especially when his love for his wife has been widely spread among the whole world, and i think that's gonna be the only and only one forever ^_^

Like I said, that sound like a very interesting story to read. I wonder what inspired him to build the Taj Mahal. Does the name have any significance to it? How did he come up with the design? So many questions... so little answers...
