What do you do when its hard to sleep?

I am usually a sound sleeper. But there are a few things that deny me this privilege: coffee, tea and coke. I toss and turn for hours at night if I took any of these beverages during the day. Does anyone have a similar experience? What do you do?

Watching TV. I usually find something boring so I can start to doze. Infomercials work out great, lol. But sometimes I'm kind of interested in how the product works and then my focus is on that. And then 30 minutes go by, lol. I used to drink a lot of Coke and that kept me awake a lot. The caffeine is doing this. I've stopped drink it on a regular basis and the tossing and turning have subsided.

Just like my husband. After dinner, he reclines on the sofa in front of the TV, watching something or other. After a few minutes I will see that his eyes are closed. I let a few more minutes go by before I will turn off the TV (in the interest of energy conservation) and his eyes pop open and he tells me, I can't sleep without the TV. If I point out that he is not watching, he will just insist that he was listening...and that really it puts him to sleep.

I tossed and turned last night all night I think because today is the first day of school for both of my kids in a new school. Usually if I can't sleep I will either watch tv or read or sometimes I will go in and take a hot bath which helps relax me.

Maybe you should also try warm milk, as prescribed by glay22 and bhaskarsrkr above. Sounds like it works...

When I find it hard to sleep, I usually just think of relaxing things or i just blank out my mind of anything and just close my eyes until I fall asleep. And sometimes I just listen to soothing or mellow music then I can sleep..

I watch TV while mylotting (LOL). It could be because of the caffeine in your coffee or coke.

Yes, it must be the caffeine. Mylotting? Nah, that's guaranteed to keep me awake all night!

I think mylot would have a worse effect on me than caffeine. It looks guaranteed to keep me up all night and till the next day LOL No, no, mylotting is not a good idea at all haha

sometimes, when i think too much, i have a hard time sleeping waht i do: have a warm bath, have a glass of warm milk, wear my most comfy pyjamas and set the room temperature to a calming one.. when the aircon is cool enough, i can get to sleep already.. you can also use dim lights to make the room a conducive place to sleep lastly, relax your mind.. free it from thoughts so your sleep won't be bothered hope this works!!

Do you know, there are times when I get so uptight I can't even turn on the lights because I get scared LOL. Caffeine must really have a bad effect on me. Thanks for the tips you shared. Sound like good ones. Gotta try them the next time caffeine keeps me up all night
