....exotic means different, unusual or uncommon. ... i remember when i was a kid, our farm land was infested by short-horned grasshoppers.. farmers was devastated by this, cause it means that their crops will be destroyed if it'll continue. so they had this brilliant idea... to keep away the grasshoppers from their crops, they put a wide net on top of it to catch the grasshoppers. and to make it more effective, they cook and fry the grasshoppers to lessen the population. and it tasted good. its crispy and yummy just like eating peanuts but much more tasty than peanuts. .. some match it with gin or beer.. ..so the whole community was eating it every day for at least a month or so at the same time the crops was safe... ... once again the day was save by the POWER PUFF GIRLS... Lol... just kidding.. ...so what's your story...?

Wow, I haven't had grasshoppers by any means, but I have had prickly pear, and the first time I had it, I thought I had gotten all the spines off it, not realizing that there are tiny fuzzy spines that you can't really see. The fruit was delicious, but I spent hours picking those tiny little spines out of my fingers, lol. The only other thing that I have had that everyone gives me a hard time for is chili covered lollipops. They are a variety of flavors, like watermelon or strawberry, and then they are dipped in chili/salt mixture. They're spicy and salty, and then underneath they are whatever flavor the lollipop is. All my friends think I am nuts, but I love them. They are probably my favorite indulgence. :) I had never thought that grasshoppers could be so delicious, but I may have to try that someday, I'm always game for new things. Nice post :)

They sell prickly pears at our grocery store :) I learned that I should handle them with tongs and burn off the spines, then peel the skin off the fruit. It is very mild but very good. I hope you get the chance to try them some day!

Yes, I ate clean yellow frogs from the rice field. We call it here "palakang palay." And the grasshoppers from the wide field of grasses.

Oh yes several times. I have eaten fried red ants and their eggs which is very delicious as a viand or as pica pica, steamed tadpoles wrapped in banana leaveswith herbs and salted to taste, fried or steed frogs legs, snake cooked nin soy and herbs, beetles and other insecvts similar to grasshoppers but hichm live among the weeds or plants in the river. And you should try our soft shelled "ginga" a specialty in our province which can be boiled or just braised with hot water and mixed ith ginger and salt and eaten with a sprinkle of lemon.Yummy!
