image processing in linux

There are many software in linux for image processing. One of them if GIMP (GNU image manipulation program). Here's their introduction page: "It can be use as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image converter, etc." Well I used it about a year now. Give it a try.
