I think it has something to do with your eyes being opened at the time, so therefore, your mouth is as well. When women put on other make up, they have their mouth closed (with the exception of lipstick where most likely at one point the mouth is open). I don't think it's something that is done consciously and probably has something to do with the left brain / right side of the brain and therefore is similar to the you can't move your right arm in one direction and your left foot in another...

I don't use mascara, but my mother did, and as a young girl I would watch her put on her make-up. I also observed that when it came putting on the mascara, her mouth would open! :D I wondered about that too! :D I did ask her why, in our own native language of course, and she answered something to the effect that it was just so, no particular reason.

This is a completely random question but it definitely goes to show how guys are intrigued by what women do! My boyfriend asked me the same thing once so it is double hilarious! I can only speak for myself but I think it is really a concentration mechanism. I try not to get it on my eye lids or below my eye or anywhere else for that matter. So I'm sure a lot of other women would say the same thing! We're concentrating! :-)
