Do you agree that replying to an accusation is dignifying it?

There would be times that you would be wrongly accused of something. What would be your correct reaction? would you explain yourself? or would you just remain silent?
This is a situation in which you are between the devil and the deep blue sea. If you reply and explain your side - you would be dignifying the accusation and indicating that you're affected. On the other hand, if you don't do anything, others would construe that the accusations are true.
If you were caught in this situation, what would be your most likely reaction?

I think that I might be quite close to that situation. So maybe I'd better think about an answer now. I think if people were to ask me directly if the accusation was true, I would explain it to them. But if they just blindly accuse me by listening to what others have to say about it, then I will not have a chance to explain it and will just keep quiet. I may get angry but the truth is inside me and my conscience is clear. God knows!

On something like this it would depend on the accusation. Sometimes I would just ignore it and not say anything. But if it was something that I felt needed to be justified than I would respond to the accusation. So it really depends on what the accusation is and how serious of a accusation it is.
