Was it terrorism? A fault in the engine?Maybe a high-jacked plane? What do you think happened on that plane?

It is surely a catastrophe and a great sadness for all those families who lost loved ones but surely it is not for anyone here to speculate on the cause! Since it is reported to have 'swerved off the runway', my immediate thoughts were that it was a failure in the landing gear or, perhaps, an engine failure on one side. Why should it be terrorism or a hijacking? That is a very stupid and fear-creating thing to suggest!

The only news available at the moment says: "A Spanish emergency rescue official says there are only 26 survivors after an airliner with 173 people aboard crashed on takeoff from Madrid's airport." "A Spanish airliner bound for the Canary Islands swerved off the runway and caught fire during takeoff from the Madrid airport on Wednesday ... , the Interior Ministry said. Nineteen of the 173 people on board were seriously injured, according to statements from the airline and the ministry. It is the height of the summer tourist season in Spain and Spanair flight JK5022 was bound for Las Palmas in the Canary Islands, a popular resort off West Africa, the company said. Thick, white smoke rose above Barajas airport as helicopters and fire trucks dumped water on the plane, which ended up in a wooded area at the end of the runway at Terminal 4." There were, apparently, 'technical problems' which delayed the flight and the plane only momentarily got off the ground.

Can an engine failure be an act of terrorisim? In these modern days in my opinion terrorism can manipulate an engine to fail at any time. I am not telling that the plane accident was an act of terrorisim, for me it was an accident , a human error or there was the diesel pipe broken and explode. I am sad too for the 150 victims and for the few that survive but still in critical condition. I do not think that it was a stupid question. I think that this person just asked this question for opinions, not to make suggestions or make fear to others. It is up to us to use our mind to not get influenced. I am not influenced by the question as I said that for me it was an accident and not an act of terrorisim.

I think that it must have been a fault in the engine because it set the plane on fire. If it was terrorism there might have been an explosion like a bomb going off. It is very upsetting to think about this awful event at Madrid Airport. The plane was just about to set off on its way to the Grand Canary Island in the Canary Islands. I feel sorry for all the people involved in this terrible accident.

it's a massive terrible event that brought down so many spanish hearts...i don't think it's terrorist plans or hijacking has got nothing to do with it..it's a failure system and hence had problem with landing.
