i have a 14 year old dog, he is blind now and he can not hear anymore. he is really really a good dog. the vet says he is not in pain. but when you try to pet him he is all scared and i think he is in pain. it would break my heart to put him down. but it might be the best for him. i think he is not enjoying live anymore. what do you think. i really dont know what to do

hi hazel...i am so sorry, but the best thing for your precious baby would be to put him to sleep. i know it is most sorrowful and painful. i had to do it for a ferret that was covered with tumors, and had a big open sore. it was the hardest thing to do, but it is best for them. i am truly sorry for you. maybe you should get someone else to take him in for you. there's nothing wrong with that. it'd be easier on you.

Oh hazelnut, I'm so sorry for you having to make this decision. Is he telling you that it's time???? He will, and then you make his last day on earth the best day of his life. Feed him his favorite foods, lay with him, pet him and love him, and tell him how much you care, and when you take him in, stay with him, so he does not go alone. And remember, he will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge.

well, the vet said he is not in pain,i think he might be scared when you pet him because he cant see or he hear you approach him, imagine if someone was approaching you and you couldn't see or hear you might get startled to, if you asked a vet and if they didn't say you should put him down then you may not have to, just figure out a new way to let your dog know your about to pet him, and as long as he still as a healthy apatite and he still seems to enjoy his life then there should be no need to put him down, yet.

It sounds like your dog has had a great life to get to 14, he must have been very happy all these years. Now his quality of life is not good and although the vet says he is not in pain, yet you go to pet him and he is scared I think that he maybe isn't happy now. I would also be very sad, but you have to do what is best for your dog and not for your feelings. As his health has deteriorated and he can's see or hear I think it would be time to let him rest as you wouldn't want him to end his days being unhappy.

I would put him down. You may not want to because he's been with you for a long time, but if he is constantly scared when you try to pet him,if he's blind and deaf,he will start walking into walls and it will get really bad,but it would be the humane thing to do.Good luck in your decision on this matter..stay strong.
