I was using two different compression software, the winrar and 7zip software. Why? They are free. The 7zip is much better because it compressed more as compared to winrar, however, if the user doesn't have 7zip installed, then they cannot open the file. Same thing with winrar, the user must have winrar software installed before they can open the file. But seems winrar are already popular. But the safest is winzip, almost all the PC have this software installed to uncompress files.

Yeah and 7zip is truly better at all. However, it did not create much problems with me since I was doing only the compression when I was sending email attachment and I was maintaining the attachment to less than 1 MB only.

Well, So you choose your compression program based on its compression ratio rather than It's speed. :) I believe every modern compression software have a facility call Self Extraction (etc), so the archieve result is an application. 7zip had it too...

WinRar. I prefer it to many other compressors/decomperssors as you can try to decrompress any files you want, not only .zip or whatever

Yes winrar is one of decent compression software around... why do you prefer it? Its compression ratio or it speed?

I just found it easy to use. And because it's better than "free rar extract frog" and the decompresser / compressor built into windows XP

Winrar of course. If it is demand winzip file, I will use winzip. I choose winrar because most of the compressed files are rar type. I believe it will be convenient to every one who want have the compressed file.

I haven't notice the compression ratio or speed of each program, but I'd prefer the compression ratio because compressed data are meant to for your archived files and you would expect to open it once in every 2 years. So the data should consume minimal space as possible. I use 7z because its free but it cannot decompress multiple-span zips. There was a free software with a very high compression ratio but i cannot remember the name and i found it to be unstable.

Tryed a few... Zip is the most used because windows supports it, but rar files are around alot too because it is a decent software. Currently I use mostly winrar because it is used all around now-a-days and its an ok program with decent rates. Tryed many others like 7zip, uharc, kgb and more. Some offer really interesting compression ratios but most people don't know them or cant use them, so I ended up not using them too.
