my mom open the door for me ..just a while ago since i had to do some errands and she stays in the house...she complained about a pain in her foot..since last night after dinner we did some walking for atleast 15 minutes or less..just for her to stetch her legs and everything goes with it
and i told her that it will become a routine for her to do so ..from now on...and so i told her that maybe the pain was the result of your walking around the block and its just normal to feel it since you havent done this for a long time now...am i right in assuming that it was really due to her walking? although generally shes in good health thanks to God for that...what about you guys..do your mom/dad always complain or made some comments on everything they felt such as pain and tasteless food?

Your Mother is at the age where she has a lot of aches and pains, they will come and go on a regular basis. Staying active is the most important thing she can do for herself. The 15 minute walk is a good ideal as she keeps it up aches and pains will get better. Many older people stop being active and they lose their mobility. Even if they have to use a walker or a cane keep moving. Of course any pain that is long lasting should be checked out, but when beginning a new activity it is normal to be sore or ache. Also she may be a bit lonely and need a little attention. Just because she is older does not mean she can't use a little attention.

Perhaps your mother tired because of walking around some block or perhaps she was true that she had pain and sigh in her foot because of the ages. May i know what is your mother ages? I am afraid that she has a problem with her foot.
Not only our parents feel such tasteless food, sometimes my sister or even my husband feel that my cooking is tasteless. I think when someone eats our cooking, it can be a different tasting.

Is your mother diabetic? Could she be?

May be the walking that you asked her to make.. did the real reason for this discussion.
My Mom, is aged 69 years and she does all the house hold work, and no house maids she like to have, and at the end of the day she complains about her pain in her legs.. once she takes rest.. it subsides..and on some days she takes the pain killers on her own..

Hello vanities,
I am lucky as my mother doesn't complain too much. She is very adaptable whenever she is healthy but due to her being sick recently, she becomes a bit sensitive over small issues. The most that she complains is that she feels we spend lesser time with her. We are all working and there are such a limited time to spend for our own selves in fact. But we still visit her regularly over the weekends. I understand if she starts complaining.. she is older and she feels lonely I guess...

two things.
is the pain in her muscle or the bone of her foot?
front or back?
i had a very large bone spur and it caused lots of pain in walking.
second, my mom is just now out of the hospital. yesterday actually, after 4
weeks!
she is 80 years old and still works part-time.
she had a hip replaced last june. she was on some fairly heavy duty pain killers.
one of the side effects of the pain killers was a metallic taste in your mouth.
so, nothing tasted good.
eventually she went down to only 1 pill a day.
they next problem was upset stomach and diarrhea.
so, we watched that for a year.
refused to go to a physician.
each week, same thing.
when her sister passed away in april from stomach cancer, she had an endoscopy which showed red spots in her stomach from her baby aspirin per day. so, we stopped
the baby aspirin.
a YEAR later, she had a huge bone spur removed from her thumb.
she thought she would do one this summer and one next summer.
of course, she upped her dosage of pain meds after the thumb surgery.
same complaint: metallic taste in her mouth, and diarrhea.
2 weeks after thumb surgery, she collapsed at home. i found her.
got her to the hospital and she was severely dehydrated.
she also had a fecal impaction.
fluid could get around it.
hence the year of diarrhea.
in the hospital they got everything fixed and in good working order.
i asked her my famous question, "so, mom. what did you learn from this?"
her reply ?
"that i should have followed your advice in the first place"
so, we have to find a way to have our moms and dads listen to us !
now, my mom MIGHT listen to me in the future. don't know till then.
is it because they are elderly and frightened ?
and, of course, the cost is an issue, too.
