Should schools require their students to wear uniform?

Since time immemorial, uniforms in schools were required specially in elementary and high school. For me, wearing of school uniform is good because parents will not worry on what their kids would wear everyday (that would be expensive), it's good to look at when all of them wear uniform (like everyone is equal), and it's an identity of a school. In your own opinion, should schools require their students to wear school uniform?

in my opinion schools should require students in uniform, parents have difficulties in thinking if what will the dress of their child to be use during schooldays, there are parents that can"t afford to see their children wearing again and again clothes.

schools should have their own uniform. so the parents can budget their money. if the scools have no uniform parents will buy fancy clothes for thier children

I think it is good for children to wear uniforms. It causes less hassel of chosing outfits, and it creates a uniformity.lol. No really, it helps kids from being picked on or discriminated because they don't have the best clothing, or they aren't wearing name brand stuff. Then again a lot of people argue that it doesn't allow children to express their personalitys. But uniforms are just so much better, because they allow parents to not worry about what your child should wear in the morning, or them having to worry about their child getting in trouble for violating the dress code.

I think it really depends on the school and what the parents want. I am a huge believer in schools taking a poll of the parents when it comes to these things. Some areas, the parents are all for it and some they are not. So I say it's what the parents want. Do it across the board for all schools? No I am not in support of that at all. I personally can go either way, I see the ups and downs of both. Uniforms are expensive and when you have a child in elementary and middle schools, they grow fast and non stop, that's where it can become quite expensive to keep them in uniforms. Low income families would be hit hard, but it's the middle class that would be hit hardest by this since they do not qualify for any assistance, but are just barely making it as is, that's where I fall at. However, wearing street clothes can cause problems such as teasing by other students or students wearing inappropriate clothing. I like how they have things set up here, some schools have uniforms and some do not, parents have a choice and to me that's the best solution.

Well, in my country both public and private schools' students wear uniforms and I love it... I couldnt imagine to wake up every day gettin' crazy about what I'm gonna wear and yes, it must be really expensive to wear normal clothes cuz what kid would like to wear the same thing twice these days??

Here in the US it was only private and parochial schools that did this. Now, charter schools and some public schools too. I am a big supporter of school uniforms. Pretty much for the reasons you stated. It is an equalizer, I would rather kids worry more about school work than what each other is wearing. Who is going to mug you for a uniform? And it helps the hoochy factor, girls wearing short skirts and half shirts.

that has been a debate at our local schools lately, some think its a good idea because the students are recognizable quickly as well as each student looks the same so there is no competition. BUT, i find that uniforms can be expensive and clothing you can get at thrift stores.

yes ofcourse, there should be a uniformity in dressing. Now a days not only schools but also many multi-national IT companies wanted their staff to follow a proper dress code.
