How does he do it?

How does he grow so fast? It seems like just yesterday I was pureeing his carrots, now he asks for certain things by name, he speaks in sentences, and he uses the potty. It feels like we just set up his crib, now he's sleeping in a toddler bed. I just bought him shoes a month ago, now they don't fit anymore. I'm excited about all the new things he is learning and doing, but part of me feels sad that he's not my baby anymore. I mean, he'll always be 'my baby,' but he's not my baby anymore. He doesn't need me to feed him anymore, he does it himself. He knows what he wants and he goes for it. He is almost two, and I feel like my son is growing so fast that if I blink I'll miss something.

I don't know how they do it either, children seem to just fly through childhood don't they? I know what you mean about them not being your baby any more. I have started to wean my youngest recently and it just really bought home that she is no longer a baby. She is a little girl now. Her personality has always shone through but now you can see a sense of humour developing. She can share with me thoughts in her head and even tell me a story. The cries of infancy have slowly given way to a world of words and explanations. It feels like the last little thing I have to hold on to is that she still needs me to help her get dressed. Even that is slowly fading away as her strong will, determination and independence take and even stronger grip

My son is now starting to dress himself, too. He does still like to sit and cuddle when he is tired or not feeling well, so at least there's that...

I know how you feel! My oldest starts kindergarten on monday! She grew up really fast too. By 18 months she was talking as well as a 5 year old. She potty trained fast too and just seems to be growing so fast. Now I have 3 kids and they all are growing too fast for my liking. My last baby just turned a year old at the end of july But I guess that happens with kids .

Yeah, it does happen with kids. It is so exciting, but sometimes I wish I could hit 'pause' so I could enjoy it a little longer.

Well, don't blink, sillychick. The next thing you know he will be bringing a girl home, and telling you he is getting married. My kids are 27 and 23. Sometimes I look at them and wonder how that happened over night. I always tell young parents, enjoy every minute of every stage of your child's life because it does fly by. You will go to bed tonight, and tomorrow when you wake up, you will be a grandparent.*S*

Stop it, you're scaring me. I have heard that advice before, and it is the best advice I have ever received. I am so lucky to have been home with him since he was born, to be here with him for all of the milestones.

Yes, you are. Even on the days that little fellow drives you up the wall, you are lucky to be there with him. A lot of mom's don't have that option. Just remember to take a few minutes for sillychick , too. Thanks for the br.
