Do you know what you're doing for christmas? Do you plan life that far ahead?

This month, I am already getting emails from restaurants and bars about christmas plans and booking tables and events. I know businesses have to start marketing early, but are consumers also putting thought into what they're doing for christmas already? I am not one to really plan that far ahead and the earliest I'd know my christmas plans is early December unless it involves taking a flight out and going away on holiday, then I'd maybe have it confirmed by end of November at the most! What about you? Do you know what you're doing for christmas already? Do you know what you're eating on the day e.g which restaurant or which events you'll be going to round the time? Do you know where you'd like to go or do you wait till you get a little closer to the date? Do you normally plan life that far ahead? Or do you take it a day, a few weeks, a month at a time?

Yes I know what I will be doing. The c-section for the delivery of my son will be scheduled for the week of December 10th. So I will be recooperating, and welcoming my son into our family. Normally we do an every other year going to the in laws. This year I get a wonderful gift early.

When it comes to my family we never plan what we are going to do for Christmas to far ahead because there is really no point in it,especially since plans have a bad habit of changing,especially since peoples schedules change,including their work schedule, we usually start planning Christmas the last weekend in November because that is when we get the Christmas stuff out,even though Christmas is usually the same each and every year.

It would be end of November at the earliest for us Time flies by though and this year is cruising by at such a pace You're right, sometimes it's not worth planning it as things change..I do wish I could be off work this christmas break but that's a wish that has not happened in past two years

I don't actually do any planning that far ahead, but around the end of September I start thinking about what plans I might be making for Christmas. I'd like to go to Texas for Christmas this year, but so many things come into play now, such as if my s/o would be able to get off work long enough, would there be a problem with the weather then, snow or no snow? whether or not we would fly or drive. But as far as making any actual plans, that won't happen til mid-November. It's also hard for us to get away at Christmas because it's also his daughter's birthday. For the most part we take things a day at a time, since things can change around here on a daily basis.lol As for making plans that involve flying, I do try to make those as far in advance as possible since you can sometimes find a better deal if you do.

You're right on the deals normally depends on when I have the money.. I'd know in November too, who is flying here and who's going out, who's coming to ours or who's we're going to in December

Same as always. Christmas lunch with my family. My sister is one of the best cooks I know and every Christmas Day we all have lunch there and sit talking and drinking well into the night. Its my only time with my family in that festive atmosphere. I look forward to it every year.

Most of my family live abroad so I miss those days when I knew for sure that I'd be spending it with them, 'the whole crew' They flew here last year s this year is most probably my turn to fly over there..

Oh geez! I Don't even know what I'm doing this weekend!! LOL. I usually try to plan things but going as far as Christmas for me is a bit far. Plus, I live with my boyfriend. Both our parents are divorced so usually every year we have 4 days of Christmas. lol. It usualy 4 exhausting days in a row trveling to each, which I'm not complaining it's always nice to prolong a holiday. But it's just impossible for us to plan that so far ahead.

There is no way that I could possibly plan that far in advance. Life changes too much to be able to make plans months in advance-- at least, mine does.

I agree with you on that one..I normally take it a month at a time at the most some do plan that far too or make sketchy plans at the least of what they'll do at the time.. I wouldn't plan that far ahead yet

me and my wife loves planning for occasions like that. specially christmas and new year and also our sons birthday. if we can only celebrate christmas at hongkong disneyland but that is still out of the budget. but wishes do cometrue. there are more christmases to come and we will be saving for that. maybe this christmas we will be celebrating it at home and new year we will be celebrating it in a hotel where we can watch great fire works display.

When I was still in college, I used to plan months ahead on what I want to do on Christmas Day, what food to eat, places to go, things and gifts to buy, etc. I have to cos I have to tell my dad about the budget beforehand so he could prepare. Even though I am the most thrifty daughter he has, he likes to think that I come up with something too pricey for him (which would be close to nothing) but I never did. I'm always the practical one although my ideas for Christmas are not "cheap", it's definitely not extravagant. So anyway, that was when I was still in college--at least before my dad passed away. Last year was the first Christmas my family and I spent without him and the very first one I had no plans made up or anything. My brother and I just stayed home and my mom was in LA that time. This year though, my friends and I are thinking about spending either Halloween or Christmas at a hotel but then I'm thinking maybe we'll spend it somewhere else cos some of us are planning to go to Mississippi for an internship and I'm still deciding whether to take the internship OR the work at Dubai. My internship application still has 2 pending interviews but the processing time would be around 1-2 months tops so that'll be on September or October but with the Dubai I still have my final interview which is on October. So, I don't know. That's basically my plan this Christmas--work and shop. I just hope I get into one if not both of them. I can say I'm the type that likes to plan life ahead. I like to envision myself a year ahead to motivate me. That still applies to m weekly movie dates with my friends. I'm more of a planner. I like things planned but I'm also spontaneous at times.

No, I really don't know what I'm doing for Christmas yet. But I do know that it will be with my family. I have 4 children so the Holidays are always a wonderful time of the year. Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year. It is even more special when you have small children. I will probably start making plans for Christmas around the middle of November. I know that will be here before I know it though. The older I get the faster time seems to be. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

Yes, I have one small child and the last christmas was very special as our family made it here for two weeks. I hope I can do the same this year and fly over, maybe I will have to quit my current job and look for another one in Jan Time seems to be going faster for me too, I don't think it's age, time is flying... we just began the year and finishing it already

I prefer it being a home thing than going to the restaurant which we normally do as a big family when my family is around..the biggest are the best, nothing like family

We are hoping to get together with all of my husbands family this Christmas. There are 7 of them in all and they haven't been together as a family since my husband was very young. If we can all come up with the money to go to Oklahoma that's the plan.

Hi there marina321 No I have no plans for christmas yet. I have no plans for next week. Let alone for Dec. already. lol planning to me sometimes is just a waste of time. If all said and done doesn't turn out the way you plan it. I have has that happen so I have gone back to my first plan. Don't plan then it can't fail. If you end up somewhere fine. If you don't fine. I fly by the seat of my pants. lol

Yes, i've already started planning with my mum and sister where we are going to have christmas day. Usually it's at either my mum's or my sisters, but since this year my husband and i have built a house, and we have a lovely outdoor area we thought it would be good to finally host a christmas day event! So the last month i have been talking about it with my mum and sister and we have been making plans for my family to come over, what kind of lunch (seafood/roast) etc, and who we will invite. We usually start planning christmas around this time of the year.

When it comes to christmas and having a quite large family I do tend to plan ahead usually in regards to presents. I already know what I am going to get everyone and indeed I am picking my daughters up this weekend! I do it as I have the money so will get it while I have the cash! As for meals and the like I do not plan that until I get closer, I want to go out this year for one of the days so need to get that sorted as soon as I can so that I can book us in somewhere.
@marina321 (4556)

Our extended family is quite big..We're not big on presents and often plan not to get any for each other as we can't afford to get everyone something but someone often surprises us.. With meals, it is pretty much the same food, just planning who will pick it up and who will stand the test and cook

I would love to be able to plan for Christmas now, but I am concentrating on how I am going to pay my rent for next month. Hopefull things will change for the better by then, but right now I can only plan day to day. I was laid off from my job two months ago, and things are really tight. I can not think of buying anything but the bare necessitites. I am praying that my situation will turn around. Have a blessed day
@marina321 (4556)

I'd say I take it a month at the time at the most and I too am hoping things will turn around in the next month or two. A great day to you too

Hi marina321, I am not even thinking about Christmas yet, let have Hallowen first and I am reallythat Chriatmas is so commercialised these days and all thei spend spend spend, too much money is been spent. It should just be the time for going to church and having a quiet time with the family. Tamara

Yup, I agree it's so commercialised these days! People here spend like crazy It seems like christmas is an excuse for them to spend that amount of money they do..

Hey marina, it's so strange that you are asking that question. I don't usually think about Christmas this early at all, but my boyfriend keeps bringing it up. My birthday is in October, his is November then Christmas. He keeps telling me that I have to start saving money. I'm not evening working and don't know what I'm doing tomorrow. I know that before we know it the stores will start to put up the decorations and that should be happening not long after labor day. Everyone rushs our lives away. I guess now that I'm older I see it happening. Before you turn around another year is gone. I never plan ahead for anything, but I'm being forced to lately and I don't like it. I guess I'm just scared that life is passing me by, and it is.

Time is flying by, and not for only you! I wish it could slow down a little, weren't we in Jan a few months ago?and we're already at the end of 2008! Mine and my daughter's bdays are in Jan so Christmas is often really a whole year gone and a new one starting for us I still can't plan that far ahead, my pocket does not allow me to

Christmas Tree - A picture of a Christmas tree I looked up on the Yahoo site.
Talk about getting things ready early! Do I know what I am doing for Christmas? I don't even know if I will be living in my house at that time. I could be moving. But to tell you the truth I have thought of it. I was thinking of having a tree and decorating it. It will probably be artificial. I just really like the holiday. It can be fun. As far as any plans like going to restaurants or getting reservations started that is the farthest from my mind. I want to enjoy the here and now because time moves too fast.

I don't think I will be in the house I am in now too I don't plan that far ahead and with the reservations, I'd never book this early!

I have no clue what will be going on for Christmas. I will have had my daughter by then, so I don't even know where my head will be at. Last year, I wanted to have a Christmas party, but I wasn't able to. Maybe I can host one this year. The problem is we're moving to a whole new city to continue or educations and for jobs, where I know no one...There's so much going on, I have to plan way ahead of time, if I actually want to do something like that. I know we'll be doing something with church, but that's all I really know.
