I have a birthday tomorrow for a customer so instead of buying a bunch of gift bags I buy the generic ones from Walmart and jazz them up. I just cut a few places and run a ribbon through them. Do you have a quick and easy way to jazz up a bag or do a gift wrap?

Yes this is what I do. I take the price tag off. If I remember and wrap it in the bag it came in. Ok I don't wrap. I hate it. But my one friend she wraps jazz up all kinds of ways. I buy her little things that she put on presents. Her gifts look so nice you don't want to unwrap them. lol. silk flowers anything that she can use she will.

What a very unique idea. Thanks for sharing. I will have to try this next time I buy a plain gift bag. You are just so clever when it comes to using your imagination and craft ideas. I have a couple of patterns for plastic canvas gift bags but it would take me a long time to complete the bag and wouldn't know what size to make unless I decided on the gift first. Guess I could start with a small one to use for gift cards.

If I made a gift bag that could be used for any occasion, it could definitely be reused. Would take forever to make one so it could be my winter project.

When we went to Japan, I noticed that they do the coolest thing there: they simply take a piece of fabric that's cut in a square, lay in out flat, and place the item to be wrapped in the middle of it. Then, they bring up all four corners to the top middle of the item, and tie them together in a knot or pretty bow. I can't describe it very well, but it makes the nicest looking gift. Plus, the receiver of the gift gets a nice piece of cloth in addition to the gift. In fact, this method is so popular in Japan that there are many kerchiefs, hand towels, etc. that are decorative and can be used just for this purpose.

Yes, one of the gifts I got was wrapped in a kitchen towel that had little sumo wrestlers all over it, no kidding! It is the cutest, most unique thing. Another gift I got was wrapped in a very lovely scarf. Still another was wrapped in what looked like a handkerchief that had a Japanese scene depicted on it. The Japanese people are incredibly generous and give a lot of gifts!

I love gift wrapping! I always think a beautiful package makes the gift even that more special. I have a few gift bags from the Dollar store at home so if I need to give someone a gift and I don't have time to wrap then I have something ready to go. Or if I am lazy it is also a great option! I like your idea about running a ribbon through them. Do you use a paper punch to make the cuts or scissors or ? I bet it looks very pretty though and it is a thoughtful and personal touch. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

I used a sissors because I broke the blade on my exacto knife....that that cuts straighter then a sissors!

Hi Jill, I am not creative at all as far as jazzing up gift bags, I will just buy gift wrap and wrap the present. Ellie :D

oh yeh i have lots of tricks i love stuff like that you can get regular sequins and diamanties, iron on ones, you can get paint that you can do an emblem with and sparkly material that also does it. I have fabric pens and gem magics (attatch gems and studs) I even done a mini photo before for someones 21st. I have lots of things as these are things that i do alot like you wedding favours and table decorations and fancy giftbags. I don't really do paper though i tend to try and reuse paper & tissue sheets that i get and be a bit more environmentally friendly.

That is a very pretty bag. I save all the gift bags I get gifts in and reuse them if they aren't crumpled and ugly looking. I have a friend that uses the big paper grocery bags. She saves gift wrap from presents she gets and cuts out pictures or cuts out around the designs and covers the name of the grocery store with those, then cuts out letters to spell out the name of the gift recipient, then adds some pretty ribbon on the handles.

That bag is pretty, and different from what you would normally see in a store. There are all kinds of different, and interesting, creative ideas in the responses as well. I, too buy those plain little colored gift bags at the 99 cent store. Now, I have all kinds of ideas on how to dress them up a bit. Thanks for starting the discussion, and thanks to everyone who responded. What a great place this is.*S*

I haven't personally done this one, but someone else did it for a gift they gave me, and I thought it was darling. They took a box and decoupaged (sp?) some flower cut outs and butterflies on it, and then added some glitter and tied it closed with a lovely ribbon. I tend to use the gift bags like you have, but I'd never thought of doing the ribbon trick. I'll have to remember it for next time! Thanks for sharing it! Another thing I do every so often, especially with gifts for friends who are eco-friendly, is... I wrap them in brown grocery bags instead of wrapping paper, and then I paint them with things that remind me of them... I wish I had pictures.
