They likely are mice. You should consider putting all of your food in sealed containers, as even if you do trap the mice already there, unless you remove the food source, more will come.
As for how to get rid of them, it REALLY depends on if you have pets or not. If you have any kind of pet, do not use poison or glue traps. Both of these can easily kill your own pet. In fact glue traps should not be used at all as they are EXREAMLY inhuman.
In fact, if you have any small pets, your best bet is to live trap the mice, so you don't get one of your pets caught by mistake, and take them far away from the house.
But unless you remidy the situataion of a food source, you'll find yourself constantly dealing with univinted guests.

Hi J..
I do have small pets,( Chiuahuahs) and a 2 year old baby. I agreee the glue traps are extremely inhumane, would you think calling a Pest control place would be beneficila? I know they do have live traps, I don't want to kill the "guest" I just know they are dirty and cannot jeopardize my family's health.. ya know?

I've never met one pesonally, but they tend to use poisons as well, and may involve getting you to leave the house while it's done.
I would say overall your best bet is to go somewhere like home depo or such, and pick up a few live traps. Even if your dog or child gets into them, they're not dangerous at all. Even the snap traps would be bad in your situation, as I think they could have enough power to seriously injure a small dog or child, and you have both.
If you can find either thick plastic, or metal containers, seal your food in that. If there's no food, you're less likely to have mice. Once that's done I'd put out the live traps, and that should round up any who may want to hang around. I would say that's the safest way to rid your house of mice without putting anyone in danger.
