Royal Mail are crap... am I right?

Has anyone had royal mail, the post office or any other equally useless company lose your post? Last week I had a package through that was too big to fit through the letter box so instead of knocking on the door to see if anyone was there to collect it, the postman put a stupid card through saying that it would be available to pick up from my nearest royal mail depot in 48 hours. If I hadn't been in, that would have been fine but I was upstairs and heard the card come though the letter box... but no knock first. Then after continual days and days of trying to collect this package I find that it never turned up at the depot and there is no way of tracking it down. Not only that but I have no idea what it is... hopefully nothing important as it looks like it's dropped off the face of the Earth. Is this just me or has anything like this happened to you too?

I think you've just been REALLY UNLUCKY here. I've had cards through my door, but I've never had them go missing after that. Also, the nearest depot is miles from where I live so they just tend to take them to the local post office, which is a two minute walk from my house. One thing I did think when reading your post. . . Perhaps they put the card through the wrong door. Most people know when they are expecting a package, and the fact that this was a surprise seemed unusual. And if they did card the wrong house then this would account for it not being at the depot, because they would be looking for something addressed to you. So if it was addressed to a neighbour then they wouldn't find it with your details.

It was definitely for me as it had my name on the card but I just don't know what it is??? The thing is, I am moving next week and the thought that this package could have been sent by my mortgage lender or solicitor is just niggling at me. I have left messages with them to find out and hopefully they will get back to me today. I'm sure it probably isn't anything important like that but it just makes me thinking that next time it could be. This isn't the first time either... although they didn't lose it, when my contract came thorough it took them a whole week for it to return to their depot and it had passed the deadline to send it back. Luckily I was allowed an extension so it turned out fine... just very, unneccesarily stressful.

Maybe it's something with the area you live in and the staff working for Royal Mail at your depot and post office. The fact that it's not the first time suggests it might be a problem with their effiency and things. Hopefully where you are moving to will have a more reliable service. Good luck with the move.
