The owners of dogs

Right now I am without a car. Waiting for the insurance check to clear the bank and my daughter is having to walk to work. There is a certain house that has had several occupants and each one has had at least one dog. A dog that is never chained and none of them friendly. Most of them bark and that's about it. The most recent people have two dogs. A large dog and a Jack Russell. The first time I had to pass them the big dog just sat there while the little one tried to nip my ankles. Thursday when I was walking the little one came running at me so I crossed the street. It rushed over to the other side, dodging traffic, trying to get to me. Today I'm going to call the police. There are leash laws for a reason for both the protection of others and the dogs. I just got my autistic daughter to where she felt comfortable walking to work by herself and something like getting bit by a dog could set back a big amount of work.

I know that is really irresponsible of the owners. I have a dog, a beagle, and he's not allowed outside without being on the lead - if he does get loose he runs for miles. Our new neighbors have a little bitty dog and it's always coming over here which drives me crazy because it teases my dog that is tied up. I hope this doesn't effect your daughter negatively - that is wonderful that she can walk to work by herself.

It has taken over a year of getting her to this point. From walking her all the way to work, to meeting her half-way and now she calls when she gets off work and again half-way, then I go out to meet her. Crossing the street is still an issue for her.

I am sure you have put a lot of work into helping her - I worked at an adult foster care home for several years and the majority of our residents were autistic, none of them liked dogs at all but one of the other workers had a little dog that was very calm and one of the residents took a liking to her but went into behaviors if any other dog came near the home.

I know what you are talking about. Seems like everybody here has a dog, but there are a few who just let them run whereever and they are not all friendly. You can't talk a walk in our neighborhood. It's scary to go to the bus stop. We finally got one of our neighbors to restrain theirs. My middle child is deathly terrified of dogs. She always has been afraid of them but we got attacked by a pitbull three years ago, and now she just runs crying. (Nobody got hurt back then but it was pure luck and a kindhearted stranger's help who managed to fight the dog off). Anyhow, the kids in the neighborhood are aware of this and take precaution. She is fine around their small dogs. But one neighbor's kid decided to send their medium size semi-vicious dog after our girl with the words "Go! Catch her!" So the dog tried, and not only that day, and not only her, but our entire family. We couldn't set a foot outside without that dog being there. We always had to chase it off. So, one day that particular neighbor's kids came and asked why we are mean to their dog. We explained what happened and said we would call the dog catcher if he would come again. Now they finally keep him away. Nobody should have to be afraid to walk the neighborhood, but amazingly enough, everybody seems to think that their dog won't hurt anybody. I can't count how often I hear "Oh! He just barks, but he won't bite. He is a real angel." Yes, until this 'angel' bites. I hope things work out for you and your daughter will have a safe walk to work;)

I ended up calling the police this evening after my daughter got home and said they chased her. I know the owners know the dogs are doing it and are just sitting in their house letting it happen. They don't want to buy a chain, well let's see if they like the bill they will get from animal control.
