I'm changing the channel!!

This morning Obama has thousands of supporters sitting on the edge of their seats holding their cell phones and waiting for him to text his vp choice around the world. Gee, what a trendy way to announce this! Not to mention, a way to get all sorts of free exposure on the news. I have changed the channel because I'm getting tired of hearing the anchorperson come on every few seconds and tell me that Barack Obama is going to text me his vp choice. I don't even HAVE a cell phone, but that doesn't much matter because I won't be voting for Obama anyway. Also, I'm sure the anchorperson will get word of who it is the second it is sent out, and she'll TELL me. What a concept!

Just so you know, you come across as a cranky old guy ranting about 'newfangled gizmos and gadgets.' I guess you can relate much better to John McCain, then, huh? (oh no he didn't!)

I don't know about anyone else but in MY "real world" I can't imagine anyone not knowing how many houses he owns! Annie

Thanks for your compliment, CV. In fact I DO like John McCain much better. He actually lives in the real world. I don't know what world Obama is living in. A perfect fantacy world, I think.

LOL You are so funny sometimes! It's freakin' ridiculous to make such a big deal out of this VP thing. Geesh, and he gets angry that McCain compares him to Paris and Brittany? Come on! It really looks like Obama is a rock star celebrity from the way he's behaving. There's a saying that us cranky old people have heard and maybe you young whipper snappers know it, too. The bigger they are .... the harder they fall. Oh my! I can barely wait until Lord Obama chooses his second in command.

Gasp! you mean your not sitting there, parked on myspace waiting to announce to your friends the second a text comes from above to break the agonizing suspense? your not absolutely salvating over the possibities it presents? Will it be.....*gasp*...dare to hope...clinton? Honestly, I wish he would just drop the other shoe already and get off the damnn head games. I'm not a big embracer of the whole pop culture phenominon. If he wanted to be really poppy, he should have domne a youtube announcement. Or a face book bulliten that would simultaniously bounce to the face book aps on cell phones. Maybe even go on MTV to do it. *shrug* He has really juveniled the election process. Maybe this is an effective campaign strategy if you are trying to get the vote of your average 9th grade highschool kid but for cripe sakes Obama, this is an election for U.S. presidency, not presidency of the student council.

Thanks for your brutally honest assessment of Obama's brand of politics. In my opinion you are right on target.

Sorry, to me it is still nothing more than gimicry. I could care less if the vp announcement from a candidate comes from a text message, youtube, the news or a currier on horseback. *shrug*

Okay, first of all, it's not like that's the ONLY way he's going to announce it. He just wants the people who made his candidacy possible to get a little extra perk for all they've done. What's so bad about that? Secondly, in this age, if the goal is to give a large number of people a small (but important) piece of information, a widely-sent text message/e-mail is the perfect way to do it. First of all, it's personal (as opposed to public, which would basically defeat the purpose of a select group getting the info first), as everyone gets it on their own personal cell phone or e-mail inbox, and secondly, it's instantaneous, and easily sent to a large number of people at the same time. It accomplishes the goal, so that's what he decided It's not a gimmick, it's just an extra perk he wants to give the people who have supported him and his vision. I don't see what the big deal is.

I guess Obama is the media choice (except for Fox) I guess they want anyone who is as far left as they want. When I was watching the news on NBC, CNN, ABC, and CBS, I wonder "am I watching American news or did the Commies take over while I was sleeping?" I thought they gave fair coverage and as for Obama, I suppose his wife makes sure to hide the mirrors or he would never leave the house. I hope McCain gets in.

I think the media has given biased coverage to Obama over McCain this election season. I am rooting for McCain to win.

I'd think McBush supporters everywhere would be soooo relieved when the focus is on Obama, whether it's calling him a Muslim and member of a radical Christian church at the same time or talking about who his running mate will be and how it will be announced because it's keeping the media from doing their jobs thoroughly and finally telling some of the many "truths" about McCain that have yet to be brought up by the "liberal" MSM. I like this idea of sending e-mail or text messages to supporters first when the VP announcement is made. Who cares if McBush supporters call it trendy or choose to change the channel! Annie

Well, I feel that this is a way to reach all the young voters that will be coming in droves this year. Its a medium that most young people use, and Obama is exploiting that, not that its a bad thing. I think its a good idea, although I didn't venture to sign up for it myself. In that aspect I am like you. I will hear about his VP choice on the next newscast after he does it.

Well I do not really like Obama, nor do I like McCain, I like a little about each of them, but not enough to make me enthusiastic about either of them, so I suppose I have a slightly objective stance on this. I can see this definitely hurting Obama's campaign more than helping it. The older generations will be not so enthusiastic about this because it will just remind them too much of what their children do to run up their cell phone bills more than sound like a serious person running for president, which will also make everyone think about how young Obama is and inexperienced, though in my book alone I don't care about age and experience if someone has a good head. Now this will help Obama, but only with the one age group, the one that tends not to vote as much as the other. He didn't even need to do this texting thing, it's not like if he didn't they would not still love him anyway, so it's kind of a stupid move, it can go both ways, but I don't see it being positive for voters to vote on. People do want change, but how is this pop culture appeasement going to appease those who actually want real political change with the issues? Well that's just my opinion, happy mylotting everyone!

Rose, why would Obama put any of those three names on an employment application? You've brought up this issue several times so I finally decided to come out and ask you what in the world are you talking about! Annie

sugarplum, I can understand your logic, but I think you are exaggerating the negative impact on older voters. Here's something I just found from August 13th: "The Democratic candidate holds a 24 percentage-point lead over his rival among voters younger than age 30, whereas voters over age 50 are more evenly split (47% McCain, 42% Obama)." --http://people-press.org/report/443/presidential-race-draws-even Obama has a huge lead among the younger voters, but look how small his 'defecit' among older ones is, just five percent. Clearly it's not having very much of an impact.

The week long media circus about naming Obama's VP is rather obnoxious. But then again, it was a week of distraction - helps keep Obama out of trouble. I am pulling for Bill Ayers. Obama's selection of the terrorist buddy would fit his Audacity of Obama program nicely. Regardles of who shows up in the text message, Obama is still Obama - a disaster and certainly no president. djbtol

The MSM's love affair with Obama is nauseating, now is it not. I love it when Obamites write discussion that the media actually favors McCain. If that statement is not but to rest by this story I do not know what will. People need to get a life if they are waiting by their phones for a text message to find out who Obama is going to pick.
