CNN Confirms Obama VP Pick...

I signed up for the e-mail alert and that hasn't come yet but I did get a "Breaking News" message from CNN plus it was reported on TV that Senator Joe Biden is Barack Obama's choice for VP. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/08/23/cnn-confirms-obama-names-biden-as-vp/ It says "two Democratic sources tell CNN" and doesn't name those two sources so I'm not sure how reliable it is but with all the "movement" going on at Biden's Delaware home earlier this evening with nothing going on at the other believed finalists homes plus the fact that Andrea Mitchell reported earlier that Tim Kaine and Evan Bayh had both been told they had not been selected, this seems like a pretty "safe" bet. Has anyone else gotten any news, e-mail or text messages? What do you think about this latest "development", if it indeed IS a development? Do you believe it and do you think Biden is the right choice? Annie

I'm not suprised, I think this is pretty much who I suspected he was going to choose. My girlfriend didn't get her text either. It seems the only ones who did were reporters, if anyone else did, I'd love to hear about it. Maybe it was just a tech glitch....*shrug** either way, theres the guy. Biden is a long serving senetor. He does have experience with the world and the way it works, this could well be the forign policy shot in the arm Obama needed. But as with some vaccines, this could too have a blow back. Biden has the same habbit Bill clinton does saying before he thinks. Wasn't he the one every one chastized for his "racist" comments about Obama? the whole "articulate" thing? this is just one of hundreds, so I hope for Obama's sake he knows what he's doing and keeps him under control.

He sure did step in it with the "he's clean and articulate" brainfart. I'm sure they'll put it behind them. Remember the things Bush Sr. said about Reagan during their primary battles. It's part of the game, I guess.

Great point!!! Maybe Eisenhower, a very cautious man, but I'm not sure. Kennedy may have stuck his foot in it, but I was too young to have paid that much attention. From then on, though, they've all stepped on their tongues at one point or another. That's what happens when the attempt to be clever overrides the attempt to be honest.

The two of you are older than I am and much more into politics, can you name one person that hasn't run for the position that has thought before he spoke? I personally can't think of any but I'm sorta limited to the past 20 something years.

I think it's a GREAT choice. Biden's rock solid experience and Obama's fresh idealism are a terrific combo...a counterbalance that Obama sorely needs. My only gripe with Biden is his pro corporatist leanings, but, hell, He is from Delaware. I have even heard Republicans say how impressed they were with him in the debates. This is a BIG plus. It was either this or Secretary of State. I'm jazzed!!!

About the only thing against Biden is a slight "favoring" of the credit card companies, which as you said being from Delaware would be hard not to be and stay in office, however all in all he's as much of a populist, "for the people" person as we're going to get. He came from rather humble beginnings in Scranton, Pa., less than an hour from me, and I really think he'll help shore up Pennsylvania. He's been called "Pennsylvania's third Senator" for years and I used to always say I wish we could trade him for that idiot Rick Santorum who, thankfully, is GONE! I'm jazzed, too! Annie

I wasn't aware he was from Scranton. My people, on the Irish side were from Mahanoy City, Tamaqua, Girardville. They were coal miners and some were Molly Maguires. He's definitely from good, rugged stock. I also have a smidgen of Welsh in me...they guarded the prisons my Irish ancestors rotted in. Yeah...he sure didn't come from privilege like Mr. McCain.

I heard on the radio early this morning that the other prospects had been eliminated, anniepa, and promptly went back to sleep. Later, my inbox was rife with notices of Biden being selected as Obama's running mate. I don't see that this choice will either help or hurt Obama's chances in November. I believe that I am going to switch my affiliation to Independent in the near future. For some reason I cannot drum up confidence in either of the prospective candidates.

I think it is a good choice, however, deep down I was really hoping he would choose Hillary Clinton as his running mate.

My concern if he were to have chosen Hillary is that she would have energized the GOP base in a way McCain hasn't been able to do for some reason. I honestly don't get it when conservatives claim that McCain is moderate or even liberal but that's what they say so who am I to argue. I fear that she'd have lost as many votes for the ticket as she may have gained. I don't blame Hillary for how some on the right hate her but it can't be denied that the hatred exists. Annie

I think it's a great choice. I'm back and forth on the Hillary issue...it could've meant a solid bloc of definite votes for Obama, but she's got an annoying penchant for being the main focus of attention wherever she goes. She's already trying to upstage Obama at the convention; what would she be like accepting #2 role in an Obama administration? Nasty...I believe.
