I know lots of people who don't like meatloaf because they say it leaves a funny aftertaste. I make meatloaf that doesn't do that. I have two or three recipes that I make and none of them leave an aftertaste. That's because I never put raw onions in my meatloaf. My husband had that complaint and is just amazed that he really likes my meatloaf! Do you like meatloaf? Have you heard of this complaint?

Hhhhmmm You use onions and don't get that taste?First time I made one, like a hundred years ago, it had that taste. No onions did the trick. How do you make it? Cook the onions? As for the Salisbury steaks they area lot like mini meat loafs aren't they.

no, i don't cook the onions. i just chip them up real fine & the pepper to. i add eggs, salt, pepper & i had bread that has saoked in milk for a little while. i usually had some tomatoes or rotel, salsa, something like that. then i put catsup on top & bake it.

Wow Rotel, I do that one too! And even salsa and shredded cheese sometimes. Then top it it off with enchilada sauce and you have a meci meat loaf. I never did bread soaked in milk, I usually use bread crumbs.

I love meatloaf, but I have never experienced or even heard of an after taste. I guess like you said, it all depends on the ingredients that you use. The only universial ingredient I know of is the raw egg. I have had a lot of different people's meatloaf, from all different cultures and I have never had a problem with after taste. However, once when I had turkey loaf, I became violently ill.

So maybe it's just the people around me that experience this after taste or maybe everyone in the area kind of makes it the same???

i love meatloaf, but I agree that it leaves a taste in your mouth that you can't get rid of, maybe it is the onions that do it, I will try cooking them before I put them in my meatloaf next time see if that makes a difference. Thank you for the information. It also gives me bad heart burn too. Any suggestions on that.

I do too. Let me know how it works for you. Do you use oregano in it? I have found that to be a big heartburn seasoning.

I do notice that about meatloaf. I hardly eat it so that's not a big problem for me. It's good that you can an aftertaste-free meatloaf. I shall heed your advice and tell my friends never to put raw onions. Thanks.

My husband said he always hated it as a kid but really likes mine. In comparing to other recipes that's the only thing I found to be different. Thanks for responding, have a nice day.
