Rama II dust jacket - Rama II is a novel by Gentry Lee and Arthur C. Clarke first published in 1989. It recounts humankind's further interaction with the Ramans, first introduced in Rendezvous with Rama. Written primarily by Gentry Lee, Rama II has a distinctly different writing style than the original, with a more character driven narrative and a closer-to-contemporary mindset, ambience and human relations than the first novel's utopian social assumptions.

Rama II is the first novel of the "new" Rama series, as Rendezvous with Rama is not always counted as part of it. The Rama series comprises two more sequels: The Garden of Rama and Rama Revealed.
I've just finished re-reading Arthur C. Clarke's & Gentry Lee's Rama II. I am a great fan of Arthur C. Clarke's work and it was a pleasure to read again the second book of the four from the Raman series.

The monolith - a Space Odyssey icon - Monoliths are advanced machines built by an unseen extraterrestrial species that appear in Arthur C. Clarke's Space Odyssey series of novels and films.

During the series, four monoliths are discovered in the solar system by humans and it is revealed that thousands if not more were created throughout the solar system, although none are seen. The subsequent response of the characters to their discovery drives the plot of the series. It also influences the fictional history of the series, particularly by encouraging humankind to progress with technological development and space travel.

The first monolith appears in the beginning of the story, set in prehistoric times. It is discovered by a group of hominids, and somehow triggers a considerable shift in evolution, starting with the ability to use tools.
If you've seen 2001: A Space Odyssey directed and produced by Stanley Kubrick or 2010: The Year We Make Contact directed and produced by Peter Hyams, Arthur C. Clarke is the man who wrote those novels, and participated in writing the screenplay, along with the producers.

It was Sleep with me by Joanna Briscoe. I should say it's rather interesting book about love triangle with unexpected ending. Not too bad.

The last book I completely finished was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I bought the book of course a year ago when it came out along with every other Potter head but I never actually read it until I acquired from the library on audio cassette. Having Cerebral Palsy, it was just too hard of a book to pick up. It weighed too much. So for awhile I lost interest in the fandom. Now my interest is rekindled and I really hope that J.K. Rowling decides to explore the second generation of Potters and Weaslys some day. I realize she needs a break for now but I think she'll return to it because being a writer you always return to your favorite characters. Hopefully she writes something that she considers publishable and I imagine her writing Weasly and Potter stories that she doesn't show to anybody even now. I think that she's probably afraid of diminishing Harry's popularity by writing a bad story but I don't think the woman can write bad stories.

I just finished a book called Parallel Attraction, written by Deidre Knight. Its the first of a series. Its a scifi romance novel, where Jared, an alien rebel king fell in love with Kelsey, a human geologist. Not really a fan of sci-fi, I was surprised how much I enjoyed this novel. The world building was comprehensive, the love angle was sweet and poignant, and the plot intriguing and unpredictable. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.

hi spiritwolf. oftentimes, when i watch or read murder stories, it is always a challenge to guess who the villain/villainess from each. i know the writer of both the script and book is really good when i start to suspect everyone on the film. more enjoyed reading for you today.

the last book i read about a month ago was called "since your gone" or "now your gone" something like that, it was a book i couldnt put down, i would recommend it. Its about 3 women who are very good friends and they all have children that go to the same school, and they vow to help each other if anything goes wrong. One of the woman's children is killed on a school trip and the book basically goes on to tell how she copes

The last book I read was 'The Broker', on one of the many thrilling books of John Grisham. I have read all his 20 legal and non legal books. John Grisham is just an awesome author, at least for me. Now, I am reading 'The Appeal', also by him and is waiting for his next book, 'The Associate' due in January 2009. (By the way, I laso read books from other authors.)

The last book I read is a nonsense book. It's a local book here, it's all about the anger of the author to his last ex girlfriend. Also about his adventure getting a US visa. All loads of nonsense stuffs. He even mentioned that it is a nonsense book. My brother bought it. I just read it.

hi trisha. the national bookstore now has lots of those kind of books, it started about 2years ago. i think it tried to follow suit the initial sucesses of those package-as-nonsense books which got the attention of college students and young adults. They were trying to provoke the humor and convey their experiences from which they learned and they thought other people would learn too. although some were really interesting, there are a few now, like maybe the ones that you've read which lacked the "tang". i hope you get to read a nice book next time.

i read "un posto nel mondo", Fabio Volo. i'm italian, he's an italian writer. it talks about love, and the feeling that a 30 aged person could feel. it's a beautiful and maybe strange story of a guy that meets a girl on a tram and then decides to leave his life, goes in the U.S. to search her (she was transferred there because of her job) and......read it!
