Does anyone use shorthand anymore?

I know I am dating myself by asking this question but I learned to write Gregg shorthand when I was in school. I am now middle age and I still remember how to write shorthand and like to use it from time to time. I mostly use it when I don't want others to read what I am writing. However, sometimes when I go back to read it, I struggle a bit trying to figure out what I have written. I still think it is fun to use it as a hobby. I was never fast enough to use it in a job. I always tried to make the symbols too perfect and had trouble keeping up with the dictator dictating a letter or other. Just curious if anyone else uses it today.

I use shorthand every day in my job as Executivce Assistant to the President of a firm in Atlanta, GA. I love it and find it extremely useful. I also tutor this skill on a one-on-one basis.

Always wanted to learn how to write in that way so that I can take down notes that my professor would say during classes but, I really didn't ever end learning how..
Like you, I really like to learn how to write things that way in case I don't want others to be prying on my thoughts that I have put into writing.
Could be art and convenience both in the same time.

Hey momiecat.
I, too, used Gregg shorthand in high school and became quite proficient at it. And I used it for a few years in a job I had before I decided to go to college. I haven't used it now in over 25 years, and maybe even longer. Although I remember a few of the strokes and symbols, I would not be able to take it today. That's interesting that you still occasionally write in shorthand.

I learned Pitman's shorthand, and I used it when I did office work. It was really useful for taking notes in business meetings. I could read back what each person had actually said, which made it easier to produce a condensed version in my reports.
I don't use my shorthand now. I think new technology has largely taken its place, but I believe it may still be used by some reporters and journalists, for making notes, as they can't always use a recording device.
