Ok, time for a change of pace. As we know, the federal government was intended to be a skeleton government and most of the power is suposed to be at the state level. On that note, let's go in this direction in this thread and remembering that most change we would like to see and demand at the federal level is made at the state and local levels rather than the federal, what changes would you make in your state government? In your local government? No where in this thread do I want to see the name Bush, McCain or Obama, (unless you have current local and state leaders by the same names), it is not about the presidential election or anything in washington at all. Good exercise for us all I think. I'll let you guys start and throw in my thoughts as they applies to my home state subject by subject.

And here's something more pertinent: we need a serious overhaul of the Department of Social Services. Here's a link to a recent scandal that is ongoing, and I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel any time soon thanks to beaurocracy.

Something else I find wrong is that, as of last year anyone in the state of Louisiana who is registered to vote as an independent is not allowed to vote until the main elections, and I just found out that Republicans aren't allowed to vote on everything like Democrats are. Now, maybe there is a good reason for this, but I really don't know what that would be. Perhaps someone can explain this to me. It's messed up, as far as I'm concerned, and I'm not registered Republican or Independent!

"s of last year anyone in the state of Louisiana who is registered to vote as an independent is not allowed to vote until the main elections"
this would be an issue of state election laws
"and I just found out that Republicans aren't allowed to vote on everything like Democrats are"
this is more a party rule, set by the party itself.
