Parvo

Hey everyone! I have a puppy who is fighting parvo. There was a second puppy but we didn't catch it in time and he passed away 2 days ago. My little puppy Mochi has it now and we took her to the vet yesterday. They gave me some nausea medicine and an antibiotic and told me to keep her warm and give her lots of floods. So I am giving her the meds and going out and giving her a syringe of water and one of pedialite every 30 minutes to an hour. She will not drink on her own. She still gets up an walks around on her own, but you can tell she doesn't feel well cause her tail is tucked between her legs and her head hangs down. I am doing everything I can. They said that if they make it past the first 3-5 days then she should make a full recovery. If anyone has any suggestions on anything else I can do, PLEASE let me know. She is so tiny, only 3.6 pounds and she will not eat. I have to force her to drink. She isn't vomitting and has only went to the bathroom once. There was no blood in it so I'm not sure what to think. I did catch the parvo before she got too bad thank goodness, but it seems that she is getting worse rather than better. Help me please. Say a little prayer to.

I will be praying for your puppy.I had 4 dogs pass away from the disease years ago.And it is very hard to watch your animal suffer.Just keep giving your puppy plenty of fluids. Please keep us posted on the progress.

I would take her back to the vet. If they say they can't do anything else for her, consider another vet if there is one near you. My oldest dog got parvo when he was still a puppy and the vet kept him for two or three days and let me take him home after he was pretty much on the mend. Parvo is pretty serious and although that was my only experience I think the vet is better able to treat the animal than the owner is. Judging by my only experience, I'm surprised the vet didn't keep her for a few days.

Hey dogs, He did give me the option of leaving her there but he wouldn't let me pay him what I had and then give him more money on payday. I seriously wish that I had that kind of money laying around but I don't. I do make sure that I get their shots and have some money set aside in case something happens and they have to go to the vet, but the amount he quoted me wasn't doable.

Yea it's horrible because she is so frustrated and fights me when I try to give her the water now, but I still make her drink it. She will not drink on her own and I can't even entice her with food. She is normally a little piglet and will eat anything but right now she doesn't want anything at all.

Definately try going to another vet, my Female American pit bull got parvo at 3 months old, had it real bad too, she was throwing up constantly. I took her in to the Vet the same day she started throwing up. The Vet tested for parvo, and it immediately showed parvo was present, they put her on an IV and gave her shots i am assuming anti virus for parvo. i was told that if i did not get her treatment she only had a 20% chance for living. (she made it) your puppy is tiny at 3.5 lbs my puppy was 15.Lbs definately get a second opinion if you have not. their belly hurts a lot thats why they dont want to eat or drink anything and they also get bloody diareah which dehydrates them. they also need a prescription for special food after wards its like royal canine wet food. good luck and i hope your puppy makes it.
