I am calling tomorrow to check prices on cinder blocks I am estimating (based on online prices for Lowes) that to do one bed with 44 blocks will be $69.08 then we will have to add delivery charges (don't own a truck or a man) so if it doesn't go too far over $100.00 we will get that on Wednesday and then we will have atleast one bed built then we can work on getting the soil to fill it and we will also be able to tell how many beds we can put in. One bed at a time till we have our garden built then it is just maintanence and sweet harvest. I am excited about it.

Our raised beds are from landscape timbers and I see them out lasting me :) We added a new bed this year and it was under $30 for a 4 X 8 bed. What size will your beds be? I don't like going any wider than 4 foot because that way you can reach the center without walking in it and compacting the soil.

We can't use timbers because of termites we have had to treat the entire backyard for the devils cause they ate the landscaping timbers that we used in front of the shrubs. Our beds are going to be 6 feet long, 3 feet wide and 16 inches deep. we are going two high on the cinders. That way mom can garden as well cause it will be easier on her back, she has scoliosis with a double curve so bending down to the ground is hard and with two hip replacements she cannot sit on the ground either. Two cinder blocks high will bring it up to a comfortable level for her. It will be me and my daughter hauling those blocks to the backyard and setting them up. I need to find a "rent a man" center lol.

Oh that is funny 'rent a man center' I love it and can think of a few times I could use that too. The last few years though the unemployment has been so bad in our area you can pretty much talk to anyone and find someone who will do manual labor for a meal. Now if we could get doctors to accept eggs as payment I'd have it made - am getting 25-30 eggs a day now and no buyers :(
